There is a massive update for the PlayStation Portal just out, and indeed, too much into the news. This is version 5.0.0, which is now online, and according to a tweet that Sony posted, pretty much nothing can be trusted on what is in it. Check out the link to the official page for further clarification. So what’s this all about?
Anyway, definitely has that sparkly emoji in there, which-lets face it-usually means something shiny is happening. But hey, we’re not getting it from Sony, so I’ve just gotta guess-it could be some performance tweaks, maybe some new features, could just be stability improvements (yawn). The link they dropped leads to their support page, which-headline news-doesn’t actually list patch notes yet. Classic.
Very strange; there are zero replies to that tweet-in other words, none. Not one. Which is kind of crazy cool for a PlayStation announcement, isn’t it? I mean, you’d normally see a few “FINALLY” or “what does it even do?”, but nah. Not a word. Maybe everyone’s just busy updating their Portal to even tweet about it. Or hypetrain hasn’t left the station yet.
Informing the queues, the PlayStation Portal happens to be Sony’s very own handheld remote play device-it basically resembles a DualSense controller with a screen slapped in the middle. It is not a self-contained console and with updates likes this becomes very important for such seamless streaming. For those who own it, you’d better tap that update button since frankly speaking, no one likes laggy gameplay.
I don’t know if it fixed the issue of “why I can’t just use Bluetooth headsets” for some, but maybe this one will be saved for the 6.0.0 version-or not at all. Who knows?
So yes, if you own a Portal, just go ahead and grab that update and see if it makes your life any better. And if you do find something crazy in the patch notes, just let us know-because, right now, the Internet seems to be oddly quiet about this one.
