The new Stadium Strike plays reel launched in Overwatch 2 really seems to feel like a moment out of a Hollywood action flick. Absolute cinema, as the people say. The official @PlayOverwatch account put out hype tweets for these best MVP plays of the new mode and called upon players to submit their own clips under the hashtag #OWClipThis. And people have gone truly crazy with it in response.

First off, for those that may not know what Stadium is, it’s this new-ish thing everybody’s talking about. So, what really makes it different from the regular gameplay? More intense, fast-paced, and based on actually-and supposedly much more cinematic as far as the brand of clips that are being put out there-the tweet does have a clip that is pure chaos-the kind of chaos that is beautiful-insane combos from heroes, team wipes, environmental kills, and everything else.

But what and how the players have been replying is pretty interesting. Strafe Esports replied with a “Facts… Stadium just hits different, can’t go back to anything else 😎🏟️,” which honestly encapsulates the vibe to a T. It seems like the moment you play Stadium, the regular Overwatch feels kinda… well, basic? Not that regular Overwatch isn’t great; it’s just that Stadium has that extra special charm.

Of course, some negative ones are there, because hey-we’re talking about Overwatch. There will always be some complaints mixed with the excitement. Nothing could’ve been said to contradict the joy of a player called Jay hijacking it as “@PlayOverwatch stop placing me in elo hell, get your shit together and make matchmaking better,” which of course has been an issue for years. But the new mode deserves a moment of appreciation before we all get back into whining about our age-old problems, right?

Speaking of balancing, MattOnTheRails stated, “So many characters need nerfing in Stadium rn. It’s so unbalanced, terrible games,” and honestly? That’s the beauty of new modes-they’re always broken at first until the devs find out what’s too OP. That’s the whole process. Anubirai just straight-up said, “Stadium needs less aimbots,” right mood?

The truly uphill thing about all this is that players have been staging their very own clips as well. Don Kastiel put up a #OWClipThis clip for a “2pv escape with new Ana perks,” whereas Cleric shuttled clips for an alleged “double kill + cancelling Reaper ult with the new Brigitte in Stadium,” calling her “sooo fun.” The creativity is settling in fast as this mode just released.

But wait-more equally interesting feature requests are coming through. MacGamingGuides raised a great suggestion: “I would love to see the third-person mode perspective from Stadium brought to the regular game modes as a toggle so players can choose between!” That would actually be sick. The third-person view in Stadium does give it that cinematic feel they’re talking about.

Naturally, this brings about a comparison with Lucioball. Multiple players, including SquallBH and Maverick, have pointed out that Stadium has first-person mode but Lucioball doesn’t? Seems like a major oversight indeed. “Oh look, in Stadium u can go 1st person mode, yet in lucio ball forbid God!”-honestly valid point.

Some players are already declaring Stadium to be the game mode preferred by them. lawnmower_girl said, “Stadium is the o my way I prefer to play Overwatch now,” which is awesome. If a new mode drastically changes the way you engage with a game, then you know the devs did something right.

The usual community requests are thrown in as well-a few more requesting Hazard skins, yet another begging for the fearless bundle to come back, and of course, the inevitable “dbz collab please” from one meme-loving player who really wants Goku in Overwatch (which, same). Plus, there are the good old bug reports with Reinhardt’s Shield Stampede yawn camera angles and group leave troubles. Classic.

Clearly, Stadium has been able to garner some major attention within the community. It actually manages to intoxicate and change the way other players interact with the game. The #OWClipThis hashtag is already being bombarded by plays with insane over-the-top action unlike anything related to regular Overwatch gameplay-higher pace, mad chaotic, and genuinely fun to watch at least according to the people who have really been sharing.

The timing of all this is intriguing because, with Overwatch 2 far away, introducing modes that could address a paradigm shift shows that the devs are willing to experiment. Stadium feels like a test for new concepts that might one day make it into the main game. Want that third-person toggle already!!

Anyway, for those who haven’t seen the Stadium, they’re definitely missing out on what might be one of the freshest moments of Overwatch in recent memory. The clips are insane, the community is engaged, and it’s just… fun. An Overwatch like this is an Overwatch that is quite often too serious, so thank god for Stadium; it’s all chaotic fun. And isn’t that what gaming is supposed to be all about?

So yeah, Overwatch’s Stadium is an established affair now, and by and large, players love it, with the balance complaints and bug reports put aside. The cinematic plays are for real; the hype is real; maybe this is just the fresh air that the game needed. If only they could fix matchmaking in the meantime…
