The newest edition of the Director’s Take was published for Alec Dawson, wherein he promised the community more clarity, transparency, and sharing of data. Based on the social media reaction, however, it nearly seems like the community is having a celebration.

The blog, which can be found through the official Twitter account for Overwatch, walks through the team’s philosophy moving forward. Dawson went on to say that he wanted to reveal more behind why balance changes were made, hero performance metrics, and what processes were involved in a general decision. In theory, that completely sounds like it. Well, the tone in the DMs leaked out somewhat differently.

Player trabucooo went on a tirade, saying: “So much transparency but the coward has never addressed important topics like PvE, why he failed to do it, why he lied to us, why isn’t doing anything with the story, why 6v6 is not the main mode, what happened to event modes, why workshop is abandoned, why stadium is incomplete.” Yikes. That’s kind of like a laundry list of grievances.

And that person doesn’t sound shy at all. Basically, Griggz pointed out the opposite: “Make it more clear why giving lootboxes and free skins is like pulling teeth.” Garganacl then stepped in with the Flashpoint discussion: “So basically everyone who complained about Flashpoint was just hard stuck plat players and below.” Okay, spicy take.

And the frustration really comes because, apparently, Blizzard Entertainment has been really putting their time into the wrong things. Players want answers over abandoning features, removing content, and promises in the form of spreadsheet and stats. Like where’s that PvE they promised? What was the entire uproar with 6v6 about? And, really: is this game just held together with tape and hope?

Even some more neutral comments carry a certain skeptical air. User OREO simply asked: “Who will get the mythic weapon skin?” In the meantime, Shadowking58 launched a petition for Overwatch Classic and stated: “Here’s the data that we want Overwatch Classic back please.”

The whole confusion about upcoming content still lurks. Corentin (aka Revali_Kai) speculated that there might be a hero reveal at Blizzcon, focusing on Emre, a character briefly mentioned in Freja’s lore. Mitski definitely didn’t see eye to eye with them: “the event is already happening and you know.. nothing happened. Stop licking overwatch devs balls when they r working like shit.”

Then come the esports people. Obiwank52854234 was hyping a Cassidy-Sojourn clash in OWL, and then trabucooo was there to kill the vibe, cutting in with: “Nobody fucking cares about overwatch esports.” Rough.

So, it’s really created this divide in the Overwatch community between those hoping for improvements and those who are just done. The devs can shout transparency to their heart’s content, but they will never impress players if they never fix the glaring issues that haunt them.

I’m saying that even data is nice and all, but maybe we should start with the game getting a proper fix. Just a thought.
