A fresh update was just thrown into an experimental branch on PC for No Man’s Sky. It’s usually a moment that calls for fireworks; but for the PCs there was one main issue-the issue that’s laughable to call cross-save: Switch 2 cross-save simply does not work. Oh, it was just so simple to put out a tweet. The tweet could have just simply read: “New build pushed to experimental on PC,” and attached patch notes. But the replies tell a whole different story.
Let’s talk about the experimental build. Patch notes claimed it fixed some bugs, including render fixes for stone walls (finally!) and other small QoL things. Even a player called Voldrang commented on two bugs they reported that got fixed. Good, right? Sure, but then the other half of the comments are basically just yelling into the abyss about how the Switch 2 version is stuck waiting for an update.
Brammerz45 went ahead and said, “My PC save wasn’t transferring to Switch because the versions were out of sync,” and it wasn’t just them-SteamingEasynow1337, HermitOnTwitch, and RandyBo91989575 gave their own unfortunate plaintive cries as well. Just imagine: You’ve worked so hard to get the go-anywhere setup-No Man’s Sky on Switch 2-so you find your 100-hour save file locked down because of a version mismatch. Oof.
Then WizzStarRanger piled on more heartache for this star-crossed saga of cross-save errors between PS5, Steam, and Switch 2. And jorgemetal86 basically explained it in Spanish: If versions don’t match, tough luck. DragonSireMods added that experimental builds only make things worse. So, yeah, for at least some players, the cross-save dream is currently a nightmare.
And then, there’s more! The players are still fighting against bugs that have yet to be fixed. Schadowblade mentioned settlements breaking after becoming overseer (yikes), and OsK3RtheGr0vvch linked a video showcasing the base-building glitches they’ve been begging to get fixed. And let’s not forget about Bigugandanchun1, who’s apparently bothered by NPCs not having beds in settlements: “They can’t sleep on the floor, Sean,” they pleaded. Priorities, man.
Then wujack5555 stormed in with all caps about Intel Iris XE integrated graphics crashing during scanning. What a damper for laptop gamers! Meanwhile, AurelliaStrass only wishes for the global base part limit to be gone. And spaces_times: the whole wishlist mode, demands for ownable space stations… and the ability to delete discovered systems. Truly bold asks.
But hey, some are having fun. Players like ballisticom3ga and cryptoshark96 thanked Hello Games for their hard work, while Lesak_ just couldn’t stop talking about how fast the update rolled out. SunshineNRnbows also dropped a cheeky “Light no fire!” reference because, well, why not?
So what do we take from this? No Man’s Sky still has a special place in the hearts of the devs, but the Switch 2 cross-save saga remains a sore point. The players want their saves to carry cross-platform, and until that is patched eventually, these experimental builds, flavorful as they may be, feel like half measures. Hopefully, the next patch will drizzle us with that sweet, sweet cross-save nectar. Until then, enjoy the tweaks, PC; Switch 2 can keep staring longingly at their screens.
