Nintendo just dropped a very nice surprise to all Switch holders because this 7-day Nintendo Switch Online free trial is back again, even for those who had one previously. That means another week of online playing basking in the glory of ancient NES and GameBoy franchises and dancing around to Nintendo tunes. So yes, it becomes wise to grasp it, even if you missed the first time round.
So what gives this time? Pretty much, they’re saying, “That trial you did last year? Don’t matter, here’s another one.” Subscription service rarely gives you another free pass after that; it’s a would-not-get-another-entry-even-from-it loophole. So their generosity might be to pull more people into the online service. Either way, it is a win-win situation.
And what do you get? Online multiplayer gaming (say goodbye to lonely gaming sessions) and a steadily growing library of retro NES and Game Boy game classics (nostalgia trip hello), as well as a handful of tunes to vibe to from Nintendo Music. Not bad for $0.
Save why now? There’s no special event really going on, and it doesn’t seem like a game launch is associated with this attempt at marketing, so perhaps it’s more of a last-ditch effort to woo subscribers before the holiday rush by Nintendo. Or maybe there’s a bigger picture that this is involved with. Whatever it is! If you were still teetering on buying Switch Online, here is another golden chance to try again.
And if by chance you were one of those who took last time’s trial, congratulations-Nintendo is allowing double-dipping here. Just be sure to cancel after that week, lest you find yourself charged.
The replies so far have not been that wild, but then again, you know gamers-someone is going to btch about GameCube games or something. It is free, though, and Nintendo doesn’t usually give out these.
Then what are you waiting for? Get the trial yourself, relive some classics, and drag along some mate to jump in with you. And you’ll have no one to blame except yourself if you get addicted to Tetris again.
