Nintendo has just rolled out a new limited-time incentive that lets them return the favor with their Nintendo Switch Online players who try out Pokemon Legends ZA with this new option. Playing the game before the specified date and time gives the players as collectible rewards 100 My Nintendo Platinum Points and themed icons for their profiles. Apart from attracting the players, the feedback, however, was mixed; some were thrilled while others were very critical in their comments.
So what is the real scenario? If you are among those who subscribe to the NSO service, and you play Pokemon Legends ZA before the deadline next week, the company will give you some digital goodies. You can redeem the 100 Platinum Points that you will receive in the My Nintendo store for a discount on the main product or to buy some extra items, and you will also get icon parts that will enable you to create a Switch profile with a little ZA added touch. It’s just another normal promotional campaign from Nintendo to get people to talk about and play a game that, let’s say, has had a mixed reception.
But going through the comments on Nintendo’s tweet is really doing a trip. One is going to encounter a very wide range of reactions from online ‘gamers’ ranging from the utmost excitement to those who even detest it. Some people are really very enthusiastic about the promotion. YenaLust was among the users commenting, “”Let’s grab those icons – sounds like a sweet deal!,”” and that is the good spirit we all have to share sometimes. Another user, SimonDeBruin, even went so far as to advise the gamer that the icon parts are free as opposed to other sets that you have to buy with your hard-earned points.
However, on the contrary, those who are less optimistic are found. Many gamers do not seem to be impressed by the rewards offered. AnacybeleKels was one of the players who expressed in a reply, “”…That’s all? Why not some characters too? Lame,””, which was probably the case for others who commented that the icon parts looked too simple when compared to the full character icons for other sets such as Mario and Zelda. PulseOfMe7 was even more blunt when he stated, “”Looool even nintendo cant be fucked with this ass game to give it any real icons like their other franchises.”” Uh-oh!
And at this moment, the game is highlighted. Since the launch of Pokémon Legends ZA, it has been one of the most debated games, and it was mainly due to this promotion that the issues around the game were not resolved. A user by the name Sman_71 posted a very harsh critique: “”Worst Pokémon game ever. I will never buy a similar one again. You are imprisoned in a dull little maze. This is complete garbage for the $70 SW2 edition.”” The comment was very tough but at the same time quite revealing—the bigger problem is that the Juggernaut is trying to get more people playing the title that already some players feel the burn or, so to speak, the waiting line is the common feeling expressed by user Mario1297662418: “”If i needed platinum points that badly, which i don’t because they are worthless, i’ll play mario run or something else for the points the game is.”,”””Not worth spending 70 bucks on that.”
Some people who misunderstood how to get the rewards were among the users who reported their problems. Several users, cormacdesigns and JStomachRipSis, were among those who claimed they had completed the task but still could not find or unlock the icons. “”It says I’ve finished all these but there is nowhere to get the icons??”” was Cormac’s question. Others kept explaining that it is necessary to have an active NSO subscription always, and this is something user LPNintendoITA brought to our attention. So, some might be going through a bit of a technical barrier which, as always, is not going to help the mood.
A really fascinating side-discussion took place in the replies that completely ignored the icons issue. Users JacquesPaught and Pokemonfan2500 delved deep into the topic of whether or not Mega Evolution stones for the Gen 6 starters are available within Pokemon Legends ZA. The question arose whether items like Delphoxite would always be available or would it be a Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) situation making them available only through ranked battle seasons. Glimmer! replied: “”I don’t see them going away anytime soon tbh,”” but the uncertainty did reduce some players’ confidence about the long-term availability of the content. This is a different realm of concern which is basically illustrating how involved the community is—and how much they are frightened—when it comes to the game economies.
And just like that, Nintendo’s classic port-begging and feature requests were all over the thread with debates and conversations happening.
