Nintendo is known for breathing life into classic titles. The company continues with this popular trend with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. The game is a remake of the hit 1993 action-adventure which gained a cult following.

The Japanese developer teased fans about the upcoming Zelda game through a 2D cartoon it recently posted on Twitter. In the video’s first scenes, Link is seen maneuvering a boat at sea in the midst of a raging storm. The hero has then washed ashore on the mysterious island of Koholint.

Long-time fans will remember that the original The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was released on Gameboy. The game was among the titles which did not use Hyrule as a setting. It likewise did not feature classic locations of the Zelda franchise such as Triforce or Ganon.

In Link’s Awakening, the protagonist searches the island of Koholint for eight musical instruments which possess magic. These instruments will be the key in awakening the Magical Wind fish and bring the hero home, reported Comic Book.

What gives the game its distinct quality is the combination of modern graphics and 2D style. Link’s has a stripped-down look that is neither cartoony nor that detailed as the Breath of the Wild version.

Moreover, players will notice that The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening utilizes the latest version of the game’s signature overhead 2D style. The game’s 3D graphics, on the other hand, allows players to move around a grid-patterned map.

The Legend of Zelda followers will recall that Link developed the abilities to jump and side-scroll in Link’s Awakening. Based on the game’s latest trailer, these skills were also enhanced by Nintendo.

Those who have been keeping a close watch of Link’s Awakening know that the game has received make-overs in the past. In 1998, the developer released a colored version specifically for its Game Boy Color console.

Many were surprised when Nintendo decided to roll out The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. But from the looks of it, the game could be a potential hit with its modern graphics and retro-style of gameplay.

So far, no additional details on Link’s Awakening have been disclosed by Nintendo. Despite undergoing a makeover, the developer made sure it will retain the charm of the original version, according to IGN.

Those who have grown up with Legend of Zelda may not have realized, but Link’s Awakening has already turned 25. Based on IGN’s ranking, the title is included in the Top 10 games of The Legend of Zelda franchise.
