The NBA 2K game has released its weekly Wear and Earn Wednesday event and is encouraging players to wear camouflage outfits to get the double Rep boost. The players need to go to the pop-up shops that are placed around The City, get the required outfits and level up quicker. It really seems so simple, doesn’t it? The community’s reaction on the other hand… just wow.
The official NBA 2K tweet received a large number of complaints instead of excitement. Players are not even whispering about the double rep issue; they are shouting about the broken features, glitches, and everything that is wrong with the game right now. It’s like 2K announcing a party while the house is on fire.
Let’s see what is really happening under the surface. NBA 2K is offering the weekly event of wearing presumed camouflage clothing that earns you double rep. The pop-up shops that are located in The City are selling these specific camo items that are eligible for the bonus. But many of the players are stating that the double rep is not even working as it should and that they have not received it at all. One player asked when the double rep actually applies because they are getting the same rep as without the bonus. Another player said that rep is glitched for starter 5 and 2x rep events do not function. So like… what’s the point then?
And this is not even the least of the players problems they are showing. The comment section seems to be full of complaints about issues that players are having, and no one seems to be listening at 2K. According to various comments, squad invites are broken. The theater mode is said to be completely unplayable and one upset player is actually yelling in all caps about their screen always saying “event has ended” and that he is constantly unplayable. Another user is actually reporting that MyNBA share scenarios have been down for almost two weeks with no update. A question is being raised here, is it normal to have two weeks with no update?
The camo clothing that has been chosen is also getting criticized. One player even mentioned that 2K released all the camo clothes except the shorts – naming specifically the cargo and short shorts. They accused the developers of just copying and pasting the content of 2K18 instead of making new ones. Ouch! One comment was requesting city edition jerseys, while another one was pleading for jerseys and short shorts to be made available permanently instead of just one day.
What was I talking about again? Oh yes – the situation NBA 2K is in right now. Players are extremely angry and consider it a basic problem to be solved, which should have been done months ago. One comment mentioned Zen players – the cheating software that gives a player an unfair advantage – and ironically celebrated getting “2x Rep against Zen players.” Another user labeled 2K a “multi-billion dollar company that cannot stop little kids from cheating in their game” and was using the crying laughing emojis. The sarcasm is so thick that a knife could easily cut it.
This promotional tweet appears to be particularly out of touch with the community. While 2K is advertising this double rep event, players are dealing with game-breaking problems in different modes. Steals being horrid, can’t drive to the paint in MyTeam without frequently losing the ball, and no paint defense being called with excessive foul calls on top of that – the list continues, according to the replies. One player directly told 2K that they should fix their game before they post about 2x XP for camo.
Not only gameplay mechanics but also other aspects are important. The words “everyone is in New Zealand for ‘bo7 drop'” imply that players are finding ways to bypass regional restrictions or something like that? Moreover, the call for the return of the 2x rec event signifies that the players are hoping for better bonus events than the camo clothing thing.
The overall atmosphere among the replies is pretty clear – the NBA 2K community feels neglected and is out of patience. They are still dealing with serious technical issues, some features are missing, and they see the company’s development as lazy while the company continues to push microtransactions and hold temporary events. When a game’s official social media post is met with hundreds of complaints rather than engagement, that is a pretty strong indication that the player experience is not satisfactory.
Thus, while NBA 2K is trying to focus players’ attention on camo gear and double rep, the community is actually raising a much bigger issue. The Wear and Earn Wednesday event is like putting a band-aid on a broken leg when referring to problems like broken invites, cheating players, missing game modes, and so on. Once 2K sorts these basic issues out, they will only frustrate more than excite with events like the one they have right now.
