The NBA 2K Twitter account has announced that users with early access will now be able to try the new Theater mode. In other words, the special edition owners will be able to enter the Theater and view all the content. They even added a little movie camera emoji, which some people use to mark special launch events. Aside from the public relations nightmare, user reception has been… and to be kind, let me put it as lacking enthusiasm.
If we draw a map of the feelings from the tweet’s replies, the sea is quite choppy. There’s CaféNFTs with their first coffee of the day, who exuberantly stated “Downloading nowwwwww. So hype!! Going to hop in and mess around tonight, win or lose.” This is the energy of raw, joyful acceptance. Nothing posed, nothing held back, just pure glee and ready willingness to dive into the game. But a single scroll down and the mood plummets.
Bugs and glitches are expected. Nothing comes close to the crapshoot of endless queueing for a server that vanishes. During the 2020 world events, gaming communities watched the flame of their hobbies burn out remotely, and Friday just appears to be the recurring date for these breakdowns. In the shoddy, typo-riddled complaint, GuardmeCuh quietly uttered the dated line of “Game still not connected,” then humorously spent the next hour with Vendetta4life trying to defeat the popular, “have you tried turning it off and on again?” approach in a separate comment thread. Vendetta endorses the method, but because of the incessant problem-switching, Jacques ‘GuardMeCuh’ never grabbed the universal fix, which is the worst in this scenario.
At this point, issues refuse to be contained solely to connection problems. As detailed by Xarlph, “my game froze I can’t even move around in the city anymore.” Another user with the handle qxjtfxp4bt is in full caps and shouts “GAME IS FREEZING IN THE MENU. PLEASE FIX. HAVENT PLAYED ALL DAY. CANT EVEN MAKE A BUILD.” That’s next-level rage for sure. You pay for early access to, well, early access, but you can’t even get past the main menu to make your player. Big oof.
Afterward, the questioner with the handle excursionOO1 chimed in with almost incomprehensible “Why is the game telling me that I have low ram and closting.” Closting? I guess assuming that is a typo for “closing,” only adds to the comedy and concern for this person’s problem. Is the game just telling them that their PC can’t handle it in the politest way possible before forcibly closing it? Then NotYourAverageIdiot reacting with the answer “close ur porn then try” is pure gold. It’s classic tech support, which in reality was closet the simplest solution to the problem.
The issues keep piling up. King Pickle is clearly frustrated, responding “FIX YOUR FUCKING FACE SCAN APP.” In all caps for emphasis, you can sense the anger coming through the text. The face scan feature is a huge aspect of MyPlayer, so if the app is broken, many people are upset since they can’t get their likeness in the game.
It isn’t only bugs; some users are having outright payment issues. The user with their display name in Japanese, ジョン・フローレス (John Flores), has a full story: “plz help me I bought the standard edition and accidentally cancelled the pre order and I still haven’t gotten my money back and I don’t have the game anymore.” That is the worst combo possible. You try to pay and something goes wrong and you end up with no game and no money. Yikes.
Tilla appears to be the only one, but it is still quite an annoyances, “Man why is there no pre order or early access for switch 2. First no crossplay now this. Super lame.” It really seems like, as earlier discussed, Switch users are the only ones left out from everyone else accessing the 2K early content and it is quite sad for that audience.
Amid the chaos, the standard requests continue to repeat themselves. “You should buy me the game please,” WillTor6 comments. “Can I get a copy per chance?” another user asks. My favorite poetic response to the plain demand is “Gimme free vc pls.” Regardless of the game or prevailing conditions, the game seems to attract, the abandoned yearning for Virtual Currency seems eternal.
In other news, Aka Broski calls the Theater his “sanctuary,” which is nice to hear. Teddy G Beats™ is inquiring about Twitch drops for season 1, indicating that the audience is already engaging with the live service features.
Then the off-topic random take. MBSanAndreas13 writes “Grand Theft Auto 4 > NBA2K26” and attaches an image. Ok? Cool story bro. While so much is happening, I appreciate this opinion that is completely irrelevant. It is this unrelated remarks that make gaming Twitter wonderfully disorder.
Then, what is the recent update on NBA 2K26 early access? It is indeed happening. Theater is open and running; however, there are numerous reports of freezing, stalling, and persistent technical problems. Once again, it is almost expected for big online game releases to have technical issues right from the beginning—and 2K is certainly not the only one struggling with this. The real question is how timely 2K is in deploying patches to fix the tech for everyone. So, if you get in, enjoy the theater. If you get stuck on a frozen menu or error code, maybe play GTA4 for a while, like that one guy said.
