An announcement which should have stirred every NBA 2K player mentioned that 2K Games has opened the House of 2K as a free event, where one lucky player could win one million VC, plus some exclusive merch and live music. The invitation was sent out across social media channels with gamers encouraged to “pull up for this special gathering.” Of course, some aren’t happy about the location or the state of the game.
The House of 2K is seemingly a pop-up by 2K that should be quite lit. 2K is placing a major incentive for gamers to attend the event: infinite VC (which is kind of like in-game currency, for those who are curious), exclusive merch you probably will never see anywhere else, and live music! Pretty cool stuff, right?
But that’s when it gets messy as some players were already hesitant about an event being in New York. “I don’t live in New York,” said one unhappy tweet. Yeah, a lot of people will have that problem! “Too bad its in NY,” wrote another, and again with that same regret. “Too bad its in NY,” echoed another regretful user. When all these fun gamer events seem to roll around in just a few parts of America, life gets very rough do-gone for the rest of us.
Then it’s followed by other players with statements to developers, saying, “Fix the game, don’t throw another event.” Topping that statement is, “How about fix the fact hall of fame difficulty just means the cpu will score every time on ur teammates in my career.” Oof. That’s a sucker-punch to anyone who’s ever felt they are masters of difficulty imbalance. “Can’t connect to the servers. Is it just me or anyone else has the same problem?” asked another player. Server issues seem to be a never-ending topic among online gaming, but honestly, it’s just bloody frustrating when you want to play right now.
Cross-play also comes up several times in the comments. “This game was $150 for cross play to not work ? Ya bugging tf out,” stated one user, and well, deservedly so. When you pay premium for a product, you expect it to be worthy of its price. Another rather simple plea was “Fix the cross play man please.” While the 2K folks are sweating to hype this event up, these replies tell us there are some concrete issues the players want dealt with sooner rather than later.
Then college basketball discussions also vibe in the replies, and that’s interesting, considering the rumors about 2K returning to college hoops. “Nobody wants your CBB game. Step away and let EA do it,” one demanded, while another threatened, “If yall do not create a standalone CBB game with ALL 350+ D1 Men’s Basketball teams you are going to lose a lot of money.” Seems like the college basketball gaming community is divided about who deserves to be in charge of the franchise, but they all agree on needing a legitimate college game.
Some questions about actually attending were practical and logistical-type inquiries. “How do you rsvp yall i don’t see it 😤” one asked, another reiterated, “How do u RSVP.” The link was right there in the original tweet, but I guess some people missed it or maybe the site just wasn’t cooperating? Typical tech stuff.
There were also great responses! One user who works right next to the event’s location said, “I work right next to this place. I’ve been watching them build it the last few weeks.” Pretty cool to be able to see that all happen in real life. An excited fan said, “Have fun everyone!! I’ll be living vicariously through all of you so please share pictures and videos.” At the very least, some people try to stay positive until the issues resolve.
That whole million VC prize is probably what sells this event first and foremost. Wow, one million VC; enough to almost fully max out your MyPlayer with very little grinding and almost no walling for real money. Serious NBA 2K players should be capable of swallowing all of that New York traffic and crowd.
Merch is probably very cool as far as merch goes, 2K always pull some cool stuff for these events.
It’s pretty neat how gaming companies, in general, have been doing more of these real-world events lately. It’s no longer just about playing the actual online games themselves anymore; they want to build communities and experiences that exist in flesh and blood. The House of 2K seems to be their iteration of a community meet-up.
The responses show that while these are good events, players really want their game to be working right. Fix the servers, fix the cross-play, fix the difficulty; then throw your parties. That seems to be the general sentiment from the community based on these replies.
Now they’re in New York, if you do get out there, that House of 2K is something you definitely want to get in on. Free event, huge prize opportunities, cool merch, live music…a basketball gaming freak’s perfect day. Just maybe don’t expect much of a very polished game on your way home, judging by those reply comments.
All of the event details are posted in the link they shared. So if you are in the neighborhood, it is a definite maybe. You never know; you might even go home with a million VC in your pocket and some serious bragging rights. Just remember not to dance along with the 2K staff about server issues while you’re at the event.
