Official word from the Monster Hunter account says that the Monster Hunter Wilds USA Championship is being held in San Diego on October 17, and boy, the merch sure is outrageous! This event is more than just hunting and has some serious exclusive giveaway opportunities. Goodie bags will be given to all participants, which include an event t-shirt, a tote bag, Gemma’s Lagiacrus plush, a visitor pack for in-game items, and a USA Championship Poogie pendant. This plush alone might make the trip worth it.
Registration is a must. Those who participated in the check-in and qualifer round hunt shall be given the items for the event, as the official Monster Hunter account said. So don’t just show up, grab these items, and walk away-with no participation. Indeed, it will prevent those who just want to collect.
As for the reaction, well… they’ve been mixed, to say the very least. Meanwhile, many are very excited about the event. “I genuinely wanna do this,” said @MidnightBoshi, which is definitely a mood. “Guess I’m signing up just to get the goodie bag,” confessed @Abragator. I would, that Lagiacrus plush is just too cute.
Then, the frustration from players from all over the world came: “@EJOI162: I want that plushie…I’m from Mexico..” and @LucioleArt: “I’m not in USA but I wan’t that Lagia plush.” That FOMO is real because, for now, these goodies only seem to be given at the event. @ChocoFoxagon got it right: “dang i want that plushie. but san diego is way far away for me. v.v i hope one day they sell them separate.” Yeah, that’s a wish of every potential buyer-an online shop that sells just the plush.
Those are some of the really funny comments. “@KagerisuS: hell yea, FOMO,” which is just the vibe to begin with. Then, here comes the downer who ruined everything: @Sifantastic666, comparing the rewards to the Street Fighter prize pool, said: “These ghetto rewards make street fighter prize pool look great 🤦♂️.” Oof, that hurts, but there has to be a little bit of truth to it? Let’s be honest: Now, for a community event, it’s about the experience.
Then there were some practical ones-snags of folks looking to form teams. “@Ana_Nevermore: Looking for a teammate,” and @pineappleundies answered asked her if she was still looking. So it’s nice to see some of that community spirit bubbling through for this event. @BLoobama questioned the integrity of the championship if they could not see the RNG of the drop system in the game. It’s an entirely valid point; it’s all about competitive integrity.
Admittedly, the usual suspects are there still. @LitePlays: “Day 55 of asking for a Hatsune Miku Collaboration,” that’s dedication. @Noah56647652: “Day 13 of asking to let us edit our characters fully without edit vouchers.” So while they’re having fun with their events, they’re still begging for some basic improvements.
Not forgetting the in-game goodies; those are tempting offers. “@iloveNoodlez: I’m tempted to go for the poogie pendant… :(” I can’t say that I disagree with that-one would just love Poogie! Meanwhile, @ProfessorCorgi wonders: Would the pendant be available to those who cannot participate, probably means no, which only increases the exclusivity.
From the American perspective, the event is shaping up to be a massive blowout for every Monster Hunter fan. So, apart from recognition, it’s about the other side, strong collectors. However, on a global scale, players are still somewhat disappointed, hoping that Capcom will eventually allow separate sales of the immunes for now. Till such time, if you live close to or in San Diego, you might want to consider registering for this one. Taking the time to hunt for those goodies is a given.
Wait, what was I saying? Oh, the championship! So, yeah, register if you can, and maybe we see some epic hunts go down. And maybe Capcom will surprise us all by officially releasing that plush worldwide. A hunter can dream, right?
