From Capcom’s perspective, the introduction of Lagiacrus to Monster Hunter Wilds means utter pandemonium. Teased by the official Monster Hunter Twitter: “The Lord of the Seas is far from high and dry on land, unleashing shocking strikes that flow through those who dare confront it!” Gosh, the comment section roared with chaos-almost everyone either loved the announcement, hated it, or just stared at the damned load screen. Classic Monster Hunter community behavior.
First things first. What I want to get across here is: What is Lagiacrus? This thing is a legacy beast, first ever seen in Monster Hunter Tri from 2009. With thunder as its element, it very much established the classic leviathan trope and was capable of killing with a single strike any foolish hunters. And it is supposedly MORE aggressive in Wilds. Skilful parties report an average hunt duration of 12 minutes; for any random group? Good luck. One player said outright, “Might have to go Solo as my teammates keep dying.” That hurts.
Some are having less of a rough time; though. Veriah_x called the fight “very fun” and praised the watery bits as a sort of “great memory pool for those who fought him back in the Ultimate series.” Then we have those hunters that are drowning with Sapphire drops: shoutout to Meow Koemi for casually mentioning 11 Lagiacrus Sapphires, whereas Craig is still on his knees praying for his third. RNGesus is just plain cruel.
Tiny Gold Crown hunters have their own monster. Mantra_001 is going nuts trying to spawn one, wondering if it’s bugged or if they’re just cursed. (Probably cursed.) And let us not forget the unlucky ones who are just… stuck. SaraJaySoldiers admitted, “Well so far I haven’t gotten out of the compiling shaders screen so not very far.” Pain.
Others, of course, complained. Some called Wilds “underwhelming and disappointing,” while others begged for underwater battles to return in earnest. Lucia straight-up demanded, “INCREDIBLE PLEASE FULLY INTEGRATE UNDERWATER COMBAT INTO G RANK.” Capcom, are you listening?
Then we wander on to the weird: Alan Parish had replied, “🤣 Bro what are y’all doing? Fix your fucking game,” along with a screenshot of…brokenness. Classic. Zihlus, on the other hand, is already looking ahead at hyping Zinogre with the Fall Title Update. Priorities.
At the end of everything, the thunder truly roars while the Monster Hunter community is either devouring the thunder or being devoured by it. Love or hate the thunder, one thing’s for sure: Wilds keeps the players awake. Now if you would excuse me, I have some sapphire farming to tend to before Craig saps all of my luck.
