Capcom has just announced something major for all the Monster Hunter Wilds strugglers who have had their monsters and Palicos just too hyperactive to deal with. The developers stated in the recent Guild Report that Title Update 3, to be released in late September 2025, will finally bring the much-requested changes to Palico that players have been calling for ever since the game came out.

Speaking of these changes, they are threefold: For one, and I stress-this is a big thing-all players will finally be presented with the option to turn Palico support moves off-and on. No more rude interruptions of Plunderang moments or random buffs being thrown into the mix against your will-or shall I say, for their own. Second of all, the Palicoes should cancel Rath-from-Above and heal the player when the player is crying out to be healed, which should have been there the very first day of the game’s launch. And then…wait for it…an option to turn down the Palico chat frequency. Yup, you can finally get your little chatty cat to hush down some of the time.

The announcement sparked an immediate flooding of reactions from Monster Hunter community members, ranging from pure excitement to kind of questionable concerns over the state of the launch of the game. One unknown channelling his alias Stormandreas put what many of us would say: “Something that should of been a release feature. At least we finally have it…” And honestly, yeah, that pretty much sums up the general feeling. Why did it have to take until update number 3 before we got basic companion controls?

Though some really were not there complaining. RB_Kitteh appeared to be rather excited: “My friend wanted this. I personally love my palico just the way he is! He’s the BEST palico!!” and it’s a profoundly sweet gesture, but if anything, it misses the point, doesn’t it? That’s lovely for you, but some of us have been trying not to go nuts with Palicoes using Provoke at the worst moment possible and just completely, utterly ruining our hunts.

Replies quickly started to go technical, inquiring whether some moves—when turned off—would cause more frequent triggering by Palicoes, or if cooldown timers would still be counted down regardless. Stormandreas clearly stated the point is to cater to which moves compliment your style of play, and avoid the ones that interfere with it. So, for example, if you don’t want your Palico to force aggro away from you at some crucial moment, you can just turn that junk off.

There were some other rather interesting points, though. Arataki Itto flew off on the microtransaction debate, for some reason, which again has absolutely nothing to do with the Palico updates … but hey, that’s Twitter for you. Then, DrinkingFood asked the tough question about whether the game was ever fixed for running like garbage without AI upscaling and frame generation; oof, whole different topic Capcom probably would rather not get into at the moment.

More interesting, though, is how divided the community really is about the Palicoes themselves. Some players like Shincry admitted, “Nah, I normally don’t use my palico at all haha,” and another user responded with, “Delete this comment before they see it,” which is funny because it’s true-if Capcom sees people aren’t even utilizing their Palicoes, there might be a spark in their minds for more work needed on the system.

Then the requests went on for more, one asking for an option to delete all the fish inside the box (currently, you can only delete one at a time-which just sounds annoying), one for the return of playable Palico hunters, and some other dude wants infinite character change vouchers. The demands just keep coming.

But, for all the mixed reviews, it looks like the greater majority of the community is genuinely happy with the changes. Lutyrannus summed up nicely: “One of the better feedback reports, thank you~,” which is refreshing to hear in the rare times that developers actually pay heed to their communities.

Clearly, Capcom is trying to listen and address player concerns for Monster Hunter Wilds, even if some of these features feel like they should’ve been there from the start. The Palico system has and is definitely one of those love-it-or-hate-it features in Monster Hunter games, and giving the players an option on how their feline companions behave is one step towards that right direction.

The update is still months away and scheduled to drop late September 2025; until then, players will just have to deal with chatty, got-the-wrong-timing-sometimes Palicoes. But that is by far another lit bit of news. By the time Title Update 4 rolls around, maybe we’ll see even more dog and cat customization options that hopefully include a modicum of fixes to all those performance issues that are still getting complained about on all, by some players.

Panther Game Wilds will give players some measure of control over their hunting companions, and that control will probably take some of the sharper edges off monster fighting. Or, at least, it might prevent some instances of Palicoes who would otherwise be working against you! So much time going to healing and Kat goes, “No heal for you! Attack instead!” Just so many to-be-heal moments…good argument for just putting my Palico to camp.

Anyway, that’s soon to be a thing we can engage in. That’s always a good thing for any game that is all about customization and personal playstyles. Even if it is coming way late to the party, that is for sure.
