Capcom has at last disclosed the great Steam deal for Monster Hunter and so, the gaming world is chattering with excitement. The Monster Hunter Series Pack, or the so-called Mega Monster Hunter deal, is back and will be available for only a limited time. It is made up of Monster Hunter: World, Monster Hunter Rise, their respective expansions Iceborne and Sunbreak, plus the first two Monster Hunter Stories which altogether are called “a glorious bundle”. The note is quite loud; it is like infinite hours of monster-slaying content. The sole negative is that it will be gone by the 11th of November thus you will have to be quick to grab the deal.

Nonetheless, it is here that things become a bit interesting. Even though the deal looks great on paper (which it is certainly for the newbies) the reaction from the Monster Hunter community has been …mixed. In fact, it has been very much mixed. The players are not only not partying—they are practically mourning the absence of classic games that are NOT part of the deal.

One community member, Skarm, candidly stated “if only there were other games in the series” and he used that very typical sarcastic tone that everyone can understand. The community is by and large backing this view as the replies section is literally filled with people asking for older titles. Like, it is a constant thing. It is almost like a phenomenon that instead of being just happy about the current deal everybody is using it as a reason to ask for the classics.

ディバドング (Diggerdong55 for those not familiar with Japanese) addressed them saying “Yeh but where’s the good part of the series?” This actually made me laugh out loud. Wait what was I saying? Oh, right—the classic games. It really looks like the people have a huge hunger for those older titles.

The demand is indeed so extraordinary. @ Dragon Quest I&II commented “MH 1-4 + Gen dont exist i guess lol” and honestly? They are not wrong. Zihlus without any ifs and buts declared “Would love GU on PC just saying. I would take any of the 3ds Monster Hunters on PC…” and James was yelling as well saying “Still waiting for all the old games to come to PC.”

It is almost like a community’s shared desire that has been building up for years. People want Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate on PC so badly that they can almost touch it. Apollo_11 even confessed “I don’t wanna play 3U alone on 3ds anymore” which by the way sounds very lonely. Alone hunting monsters on that small screen? Ugh!

The demands are coming in multiple languages too—Veltro made a similar request in French “Donnez nous MH3U quelques part, Switch ou Steam” which translates to “Give us MH3U somewhere, Switch or Steam.” This clearly indicates that this want is not limited to just the English speaking population.

And big hat tako concluded most elegantly with “If only the classics get releases on PC. What a world it would be, perhaps wild.” that last part might indeed be a subtle hint towards Monster Hunter Wilds that is coming next year which just makes the timing of this bundle even more intriguing.

The reality is that this bundle is really of enormous value if you are an absolute newbie to the Monster Hunter world. Like really crazy good. You get the offer of Monster Hunter World which a lot of people rate as one of the best games made ever along with the Iceborne which is also huge. Then comes Monster Hunter Rise with Sunbreak that is nothing but great itself. AND the two Monster Hunter Stories are also included which are a bit Pokémon-like but with monsters? It is simply unbelievable.

However, the community response suggests that old players think of themselves as somewhat neglected. Marie Rose soldier stated “We don’t get ports of the old games like MegaMan and Resident Evil fans get” and that is… actually a really good observation. Indeed Capcom resorts to constant porting of its old franchises but the classic games of Monster Hunter remain stuck in the past and on obsolete systems.

There are even some speculations going around that the older games of the series will NEVER be ported. rreck_less came up with a guess “since Wilds is a live-service game with tons of collabs and promotions they’re not going to want to diminish the playerbase any further” that is indeed a very rational explanation from the business perspective but still bad news for the classic fans.

And meyerpark is even calling out for “Monster Hunter psp games Freedom 1, Freedom 2, Freedom Unite and the Monster Hunter 1 2004, Monster Hunter 2 2006 would be awesome in Monster Hunter Collection for Xbox Ps5 Switch 2 Steam etc.” Man, it looks like they have prepared the whole list for the discussion.
