With the introduction of yet another feature into the game, somebody has to be talking about it-sometimes more than one person. The Vibrant Memories Camera is meant to provide users with tools to make snap memories of epic in-game moments with numerous editing options. You could change angles, stop time, manipulate the weather; the whole shebang just to get the perfect shot. Sounds amazing, yes? The response is: well…it’s complicated.

It sounds perfect for builders and content creators to me. Say hello to sunset shots of a mega-build, or to freezing a creeper mid-explosion for hilarious wallpaper. Clean visuals and snappy controls: that’s what the trailer promised. However, the players soon discovered that not everyone had the same experience.

Fantastical hype and frustration ran on Twitter with some players like @disturbedgoose1 praising it- “So beautiful đŸ€”—and uploading some amazing screenshots. But then there are the others. Switch users, in addition to that feeling of being in a lousy situation, are confused. “@gabriel_stelly: Why can’t I get vibrant visuals on Nintendo Switch?” Meanwhile, @LuminousStar21 expresses his frustration in just finding the setting after an update. In the shortest possible way, @earth_bat explained why: “Switch is too weak.” Ouch.

Then herein lies complaints about performance: @RBM0SS unenlighteningly opined that the PS5 was “getting the update shot in the foot” while still having FPS drops on lowest graphics settings, while @klawonn_devin simply wishes to enjoy it but simply can’t get it to work on his particular device; and don’t confuse @ultimablackmage for belonging to the Xbox set, as he asked, “And yet, no Series S|X native version. Why is that?”

But at least the Java users are savoring pretty much. @GercekBedirhan boasts 340 FPS, @soomi_mp3 begs Mojang to remove fog for vanilla Java saying it kills their screen gamma, and @Obviously_Aysh says it is _too_ vibrant and suggested a toggle, like brightness settings.

Some are all set to take their next steps. “Dark GUI” is what @EGBlackfang casually wants next, while @TheDrawable is holding out for “Vibrant Visuals + Actions and Stuff” (whatever that means). Meanwhile, though, @GokuSoto326269 desperately hopes rain does, for once, look like rain (priorities, right?).

Of course, not all of the feedback has a technical bent to it. @MikeHTX94 weighed in with “Anything for the gram,” and @minecrafttoby04 just yelled, “LA LA LA LAVA,” because…why not? And amidst all this madness, the actual discourse about accessibility is taking shape. Budget phone @MonkeyLuffy_062 users and those with the older consoles are feeling left behind, while others maintain that developers ought to optimize before they slap on these flashy features.

So what’s the final verdict? The Vibrant Memories add-on is slick-if you can use it. As we speak, crashing, bugs literally and metaphorically pestering the majority of the players, missing platforms, and in desperate need of fixes; Mojang will have to set some time aside to tune it up. Meanwhile, if your device supports it, screenshot, screenshot, and more screenshots; if it doesn’t? Well, maybe the next update… Or the one after that. Or…you catch the drift!
