Konami felt a little more generous today when it came down to dropping one of the limited-time offers- launching a brand-new multiplayer mode offered the name FOX HUNT for the remake MGS Delta, set for Fall 2025. Unlike run-of-the-mill shoot-’em-ups, FOX HUNT is about stealth, camouflage, survival, and all that good escaping. The rage of hide and seek in that oft-labeled predator versus Metal Gear environment is never dull.

The official Metal Gear account on Twitter had the announcement and a trailer that, to date, has divided players; some are excited about new content in the remake, while others are hoping for the return of Metal Gear Online (MGO). Leesiv put it best when he said, “It’s so nice to have a remake actually add new content rather than take it away.” Then there was ArnanTheFOX, who said, “We need MGO back.” The usual: half of the player base for, half against, now they must forget.

FOX HUNT will stay well clear of any half-baked cliches. From the nice little bit of sound and fury we have heard about it, I expect it to emphasize at least some of the core gameplay elements of the series: Camouflage, hell yes; Survival, beastly yes. Judging from the response, players are already deep into theory-crafting as to how deep this will go. NateDog hopes for something close to classic MGO2 modes; KDG ๐Ÿง€๐ŸฆŒ is begging for a Team Deathmatch option, whilst Jaime just screamed “GROZNYJ GRAD OMG” into the void-because, yep, somebody had to.

For some, however, it was a straight no. “No one wants this,” FumeGamingg dropped, with Squid casting upon it the trash emoji ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ since it will be released after the base game. Harsh. But really, has there ever been a single Metal Gear announcement that was so hyped up that every single person was onboard? Remember the early protests of “is it gonna be woke?” Just added feathers to the fire.

“Will FOX HUNT even be able to stand on its own?” Soda asked. From there, the pressure was on: “If not, it wonโ€™t survive very long.” With leaked images implying the existence of other modes (TDM, maybe?) lying quietly at the sidelines in Konami’s showcase, there might just be a chance that FOX HUNT is only the beginning.

One thing is for sure: 2025 will never go fast enough. Whatever the good or bad vibes bestowed upon it, FOX HUNT will breathe some life back into the Metal Gear multiplayer legacy. We are off now; save us a spot practicing cardboard box moves, will you?
