Konami just got fans riled up with a mysterious tweet about its new Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which seems to talk of some new gameplay mechanism. The image-tired and worn-out Snake in the cryptic tweet and mentioned that a new cure-based healing system from now on would change everything players would need to think about surviving in the jungle.
“Bulletholes and deep cuts will leave a mark. Heal your wounded body with CURE.” There were no details, but from the sound of it, injuries could have long-term consequences, such as foreseeable scars or debuffs for improper treatment. Compared to the original, where applying a medkit was quite literally an instantaneous fix for Snake, this will be a major switch.
Since that tweet was made, fan theories are rampant. Some speculate that CURE probably has more significance in a hardcore survival mode, where wounds heal over time or even affects Snake’s movement. There are speculations that it has something to do with camouflage: the more you are injured, the less hidden you can be.
Now that hashtag-#MGSDelta-is quite massive. It is a first official use by Konami, meaning that they may be formalizing a subtitle. The new title will be Metal Gear Solid Delta, so no more Snake Eater Remake. Looks like they want this one to be something beyond just a pretty face.
In some ways, it is disturbing that this post does not have replies below it. Normally, Metal Gear fans flood this post with their ideas, memes, or demands for more information. Maybe they are too busy dissecting all the meanings to type anything? Or maybe it is Konami managing the hype until they can give it proper decrease in the form of a trailer?
If, however, CURE does turn out to be as deep as all that, then you might have a remake that might yet be preparing the ground for something even greater than just improved graphics. This could just as easily set a precedent for an overhauling of Snake Eater’s mechanics into something that, far from feeling like an update, could be more like a completely different game.
Release date now, gameplay demo? Or honestly anything at this point. Konami has had this under wraps for months now keeping it a secret from everyone. But the hype train is alive and very well.
For now all we could do is stare at that tweet thinking of every possible method Snake is going to catch it in the jungle this time around. CURE better not be “press X to mourn” all over again.
