Konami recently kicked the hype up completely. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is out worldwide in literally four days just like that. Yep, a matter of days, four to be precise. Then of course if you just cannot wait until the world release, the Digital Deluxe Edition offers you early access for two days. Major gears, huh?
That hype trending all over Twitter isn’t exactly helping much. While the Konami tweet hosts fire emojis and tons of anticipation, the reply comments seem to be just sitting there with blank stares.
Anyway, then the topic on performance rears its head once more. And it actually becomes kind of wild. Large swaths of players are reporting issues. On the serious side, one user said he had heard the game “runs like shit.” Harsh but accepted as is. Another one said he was running “medium settings, native 1080p, 44 FPS” on his setup. Never really the 4K 60fps buttery smooth kind of experience we were all hoping for though, huh?
Then the PS5 Pro talk starts flowing in. Yes. Several comments single-out the game’s performance on Sony’s most expensive console. One player, Soulbreaker, said they bought a PS5 Pro for this game and claim it runs worse on it than the base model and they need a day one patch before even considering buying a physical copy. Another user, gingerchicho, called the reported 720p and 30fps on the Pro a “scam.” Yikes. Very strong wording.
And here’s where the voices of calm come in. EveCrisStellar is working almost with the plead to chill. They replied to someone criticizing the game without trying it: “I imagine you only watched YT videos, and you’re giving your opinion on shit without having tried the game yet.” Preach. They went on to say that the team is “working on it but it will take time,” giving a hint that some fixes will be rolling out.
Meanwhile, the PC players got into the “preloads on Steam” discussion. “Lweavl: Preload hasn’t started on Steam yet. Do something.” That tension is real; a-few-are-just-trying-to-get-it-pre-downloaded-so-they-can-jump-into-the-game-the-moment-it-unlocks.
Then the excitement must never be drained. “MGS fans have waited years for this moment. Delta is almost here,” OyaPlayOfficial said. That’s the vibe. After such a long wait, here we go back to the jungle. Big-ups are also being thrown for acknowledging Kojima’s original genius work, which is neat in its own right.
What then? Messy launch or a glorious return? Probably both, if we are going to be honest. Day-one patches are practically a tradition nowadays with pretty much every big title coming out. Those frame-rate drops and resolution-level concerns might realize an excellent resolution by the time the majority of the consumers actually hold the game in their hands. Also, storm the poor Switch 2 crowd with mercy!-somebody should announce that version any day soon.
Hype is the biggest thing, as Gro3_ put it. Marketing such a mess involved engaging with the gamers, and Konami’s tweet managed just that. Right now, all that is left is to hold our breath for the launch. Is it going to be a stealth experience worthy of memory or will tech issues really get in the way? With four days, it’d be a good guess. Two, if you managed to throw some extra bucks for the special edition. God bless you.
