Hype alert! Ultron is going big with a comeback. Per a scoop from DanielRPK, a whole arsenal of projects are to be lined up by Marvel Studios for the icon after the upcoming series, ‘Vision Quest’. If online hype is the judge, then the players are there themselves; only they are a tad confused.
Now, what is the deal? Well, Ultron was a genocidal AI introduced to the movies in *Avengers: Age of Ultron* (2015), and was seemingly destroyed at the conclusion of the film. However, in classic comic style, no one ever dies forever. This sparked furious speculation and excitement, coupled with a few “wait, why?” remarks from @cosmic_marvel.
Some complained that Ultron was “killed too early” (guilty as charged); others, like @GreasyPixel, were happy that their villain did not just die after the first appearance. And I sympathize with that. The MCU kills off its villains way too quickly(I’m looking at you, Killmonger).
But then, of course, there is the big question: how would Ultron return? And this is where the theories begin. @GreasyPixel speculated Ultron could have uploaded himself to the internet (a classic AI move) and convinced somebody to create for him a new body. Others, like @Kermit_dafrogYo, were convinced there was no way *all* of Ultron’s bots had been destroyed. Remember that creepy head in *Spider-Man: Homecoming*? Yeah, it was still alive.
Then there’s the issue of *which* Ultron we’re getting. The original James Spader-voiced one? Some variant, sired anew? @CamTheOwlCosmic actually asked straight out, “The Ultron we know and love or some other Ultron?” Because, seriously, the multiverse is nothing but a mess of mating.
And speaking of multiverse shenanigans, @jakep_76 dropped the biggest theory — presumably, if MCU is going in for a soft reboot, Ultron could very well be the chief candidate for *Avengers: Secret Wars.* Try to come to a conclusion: Ultron as the big bad in a post-reboot world? That’d be insane.
On the other side of this crowd: less enthusiastic. @AntonTlas simply opined, “Good luck writing him properly,” which… yeah, *Age of Ultron* did have… issues. @Drogon___ pleaded with Marvel to “stop giving him a human-like face,” insisting on the comic-accurate nightmare-fuel jack-o’-lantern grin instead.
Yet, seriously… excitement is in the air! @docwyd screamed, “WE WON,” @LittyRhitty yelled out, “LETS GOOOOO,” and @c3dric04 exclaimed, “OHHHHH WE’RE BACK.” Meanwhile, @jessicaca_yo declared that Ultron “deserved more screen time like Thanos got,” which is, honestly, true.
And that brings us to what will be next. If all is true, and the whispers speak just right, Ultron will be sure to show all over *Vision Quest* and in the aftermath as a recurring threat at least in the new Avengers storyline. Add in the return of James Spader’s legendary voice (shoutout to @Fordnikov1 for keeping us reminded), and this could finally be the Ultron redemption arc those fanatical Ultron lovers have long fallen for.
Or maybe it’s going to be an utter train-wreck. Whatever the case-the robots are back!
