Well, there goes the juicy news for the players. Leaks have already arrived, and a new Scarlet Witch skin might drop this week-anytime really. But then, it’s never been like that. We’re talking about a Phoenix-themed Chaos skin for Wanda Maximoff, with what appears to be the official release date of August 29th. Come to think of it, there isn’t much time left to even catch one’s breath!
So now, the whole “leak” bit itself; it was leaked by a well-trusted source, the kind of people that are accurate 99.9% of the time, so fingers crossed that the official announcement hits this week: NetEase would appear to be planning quite the full blown show on this. The timing, honestly, seems to make sense. August 29th is a Thursday; thus, this is pretty much the kind of day new content is ordinarily dropped on for the niche.
The exchanges took a funny turn for the community: a mixture of responses, really. This playerbase has actors that are super hyped about more Scarlet Witch awesomeness. One simply comments, “How much is it gonna cost? I’m already saving for it.” Passion right there. While others say, “Wait, Scarlet Witch just came out and she’s already getting another skin?”
Then the conversation turns to her kit. Cue another kit talk. Those are the ones! Some players think her current kit really needs a rework. One player said, “arguably the worst kit overall in the game. With mediocre dmg, no utility, bad ult.” Ouch. Another player said her hex bolts should be her main ability rather than her absorb ability, while others propose three teleports instead of two. It’s easy drowning with all the balancing suggestions.
And the skin? That Phoenix theme? This is pulling reactions. Some players dismissed the Phoenix/Venom skins as “the most chopped cosmetics in existence,” which… is probably not what you want to hear. Another player chimed in that Emma Frost’s Phoenix skin is “so ugly,” so maybe this is a pattern of these Phoenix-themed cosmetics just not sitting well with a lot of folks.
It’s pretty hilarious seeing all the character mains coming out of the woodworks crying about our favorites being ignored. One Hulk main said that Hulk hasn’t gotten a store skin since February. February! That’s six months of no new cosmetics for the big green guy. Mantis is probably getting the short end of the stick: We hear she hasn’t gotten a skin since “that floral skin from months ago.” And we’re just assuming poor Ultron mains are sobbing.
It was even confusing to some players why those Phoenix skins would tarnish Scarlet Witch and not Jean. One comment said “And nothing for jean 😂” with the crying-laughing emoji. Okay, I have to say I’m with them on this-actual Phoenix host should get those skins first-but I guess we have different plans at NetEase.
Competitive players already fret about what this skin release will do to matchmaking. Somebody proclaimed, “God, it’s about to be so many terrible Wanda players in comp now,” which is almost for sure true now. Any time a flashy new skin drops, all the players want to get on that character, regardless of whether or not they are actually good with them. This’ll be very interesting come August 29th.
Price is definitely a huge thing. Somebody really asked about the price, which honestly is the million (or that twenty thousand) dollar question. Premium skins typically go for twenty to thirty bucks, depending on how fancy they are, so a Phoenix-themed skin sounds really darn fancy. One player said he just spent twenty on the Fantastic Four bundle, so that might suggest our price range.
What’s really interesting is the split between the Scarlet Witch mains. Some are just ecstatic about receiving more content for their main; others are really concerned about fixing her gameplay first. Kind of like they’re feeding us Sw fans (except in terms of her kit), and that’s a pretty good way to explain the whole situation.
The time of this leak is sparking a whole lot of speculation about what will be in season 4. Another player noted that season 4 doesn’t actually release until September 12, so this skin would be dropping just before the start of the brand new season. Maybe to help build some excitement for what’s coming next? Or maybe it’s just a solo cyber-gig to keep players engaged during the current season.
Whatever the players think of the skin itself, or the state of Scarlet Witch currently in the game, one thing’s for sure: NetEase knows how to get the community talking about something, for good or for bad. Either way, they’ve got the whole community engaged and speculating. And that really is the lifeblood of a game like Marvel Rivals.
Remember the date: August 29th, because whether good or bad, that Scarlet Witch Phoenix Chaos skin is coming out very fast. And judging by the reaction so far, it’s going to be… well, chaotic. In every single way.
