Mafia: The Old Country has had PlayStation set aflame by the new gameplay trailer, and the gaming community has been shouting loudly in awe of its beautiful depiction of the Sicilian countryside. While the trailer offered the opportunity of race challenges, some scenic drives, and a dizzying perspective on some of the possible open-world activities that the game would provide for us, a couple of people have been commentating on the play-by-play, with one group condemning the combat visuals, while they see this as perhaps a narrative masterpiece.
Let’s get to that ugly countryside. The vibe emanating from the trailer had a lot of Godfather inspiration, drenched with sunset golden tones, rustic villas, and winding roads crying “take me for a spin in a vintage Alfa Romeo.” Gamer @lampkinator admitted to rewatching The Godfather to get into it. On the other hand, @onlyonepacman, who’s hardcore into GTA Online, lamented, stating that the Mafia vibe is calling him/her HARD, indicating that this might be filling a void left by Rockstar’s so-called absent countryside DLC.
But then we have some others not feeling it one bit. @hatefulfred moaned, “Shit,” while @FoshDogg felt the fight looked like “PS2 graphics.” Ouchies. @YesDaddyGubmint was concerned about there being “rainbow bullshit” in their immersion-whatever-the-hell-that-means. Then there’s the pink side with @PromptlyAI_YT chiming in, “Looks awesome. Hoping it will play that way too.”
That is when the discussion regarding difficulties heats up. @TheHiddenOneAC joked about “Post Traumatic Steering Disorder,” referring to what sounds like a tough race challenge. @MisterAlpha444 backed up well describing great struggle in conquering it for the Platinum within two hours. But @Chickadeus went the other way saying it was easier than expected. A classic gaming division: “It’s impossible” or “git gud.”
Now comes pricing. @DeadSpacedOut and @brucejr01_ argue whether game length justifies cost. One says quality over quantity; the other insists 60 hours of runtime is more dignified to be worth $70. In the meantime, @Vmoney3stax jabbed at PlayStation’s monthly free games, saying they’re “bong water” compared to Xbox’s lineup. Tough, but true, loyalty runs deep.
How are we to not remember those random requests—like @AlRaqy64101 wanting an Iraqi PlayStation Store (fair) or @JamesMi69002427 asking about PS5 Pro support (probably too soon, buddy).
So what’s the verdict? Mafia: The Old Country is setting itself up to be either a love-it-or-hate-it kinda thing. Visually gorgeous, dripping with atmosphere, and loaded with activities in what certainly seems like very fun gameplay. But already with fans split over combat, difficulty, and even pricing, it’s clear this one will be in debate long after release.
Who is pre-ordering this? More importantly, who is hiring a tutor to practice Sicilian accents for full immersion? 🚬🍝
