Insomniac Games has officially announced through a promotional tweet that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be available on Steam for PC, and they are also urging the players to take advantage of the offer before it expires. The tweet highlighted the developer behind the game and indicated a last chance for a sequel’s PC version. The announcement has sparked off a discussion revolving around the quality of the game, the platforms it is playable on, and the company’s future projects.
Insomniac was tweeting, then, and it was just a brief “It’s time for action!” with the web-slinging emojis and a link to the Steam sale, really. It looks like a straightforward manner, a tiny discount that might just lure a few undecided gamers in. What about the replies, though? A different story it was. However, the replies narrate a different tale. A thread that seemed like the people’s thinking about Spider-Man, Insomniac, and PlayStation exclusives for the last five years was like opening a portal to all those thoughts and pouring them out in a disorganized way.
First, it was all about the hype that was created. There is a user ‘CyborgKenny’, who just throws the fire emoji, or ‘GAM3S.GG’ going “I like sales 😎”. The method is given simple, clean, and effective. And ‘Michael Stephane B.’ thanking, “Thank you Master William” to Insomniac’s Bill Rosemann going all royal. That’s the place for positive vibes, and it is nice and cool.
On the other hand, the public’s demands could easily be the next transition. And they are very loud and clear everywhere. In fact, ‘AstroElijah_’ just posed the query “WHERE IS SPIDERMAN 3” and pasted Spider-Man’s pointing GIF, as if he was actually insisting on the next sequel. ‘UltraCoolGuy25’ was here to humbly inquire, “WHERE IS RATCHET AND CLANK? CAN WE PLEASE HAVE MORE THAN A MOBILE GAME?”. It seems like the sale tweet actually turned into a suggestion box that someone set on fire. ‘theroachroach’ was not asking but was talking straight, “Port all the Ratchet and Clank games to Steam”. The nerve of it is unbelievable, and it is also a bit cool.
And there is also the platform war which is always a bad time and very messy. ‘David lol’ pops up twice to say, “Can you give us spider man on Xbox series x 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼”. And ‘SilvaSkata’ has to be the one who slides in saying “They literally can’t. Playstation owns the game.” It’s the never-ending console debate that ruins a PC sale party. ‘DavidHowe656505’ takes a contemptuous stance and says “PC lol no one cares,” which is quite a take, I guess? Meanwhile, ‘punkoutt’ is having a good laugh at the expense of console warriors, highlighting “Even your precious company is promoting PC😭🤣”. The drama seems to be writing itself.
This is where it gets really hot. Some people are very disappointed with Spider-Man 2. ‘Demian DeVile’ is on it: “Nah the second game is Ass it’s below mediocre amateur writing… Maybe in a few years for ~10€ (and a mod to fix MJ).” Ouch! ‘Rohanrkz_Mr’ comes up with a comparison to the first one and points out the SM2 story is “so flat” and that a “gay side mission made me quit 🤮”. Naturally, that comment incited its own little reply chain with some users calling the poster out. ‘David ✠’ refers to Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2 as “SBI-infected woke slop” and proclaims he’s “non-buynary” now. It’s quite a thing.
A glimmer of hope, however, is there in the dark sea of negativity. ‘Alex’ is the one giving a super specific, kind of wholesome, request about wanting an option to stop suits from auto-changing in symbiote cutscenes. No doubt there is a real fan, very concerned about the experience. And ‘Sefa CANKAL’ is asking for a Turkish language option in the upcoming Wolverine game. The spectrum ranges from storytelling critiques to localization requests, and it’s simply crazy wild. And you just can’t overlook the bizarre side threads. One user by the name of ‘Grey_Graps’ (who seems to have deleted their original reply or it’s just not in the dataset) was called a “jam tart” by one user and a “grifter” by another.
