Insomniac Games, the studio famed for Ratchet & Clank and Spider-Man, did something even crazier for this community. They were streaming the original Spyro the Dragon game from the days of PlayStation 1 in real time. This gave players an exhilarating buzz. The entire act was somewhat akin to Spyro Community Day, triggering off an endless sort of nostalgia abroad.

A few hours later, Insomniac tweeted something along the lines of “First game upon entering the Dragon Realms with members of the community.” Attached was the link to the live stream. Now the crowd brought in pure love. Memories, praises, and cries for a new Spyro game or remaster of the original trilogy filled the replies. Clearly, this purple dragon still ensures an epic place in gamers’ memories.

“Such a good game,” simply wrote a user by the name of SFWildBill. Like yeah, of course. Another comment from GAM3S.GG referred to Spyro as “happy dragon” with a smiley face. Honestly, it is the best description they could give. Gro3_ sarcastically responded, “OG vibes are always an alpha move.”; never in a bad way indeed.

But then the debate started. Many players began discussing the possibilities of a new Spyro game or remaster. MMarkolado from Brazil straight-up asked Insomniac for a “remake/remaster of this game trilogy.” Meanwhile, Digitdott requested, “Release this on PS5.” We all feel the same. Marvalous214 meanwhile also asked if the original PS1 Spyro could be brought to PS5 just like they are bringing back PS2 games, which is really a good way to go.

And then, the argument got messy: It seems many gamers are confused about who owns Spyro now. You see, Insomniac made Spyro a long time ago, but they do not have the IP anymore. It’s Microsoft after the company acquired Activision Blizzard, who had it. So when XFunkeda asked, “When a new spyro guys?” multiple users had to correct them. JusticeSolid replied to one statement saying “MS bought the IP you mean,” and Ballyhateslife said, “Xbox owns spyro now not insomniac.” TheLastYakuza_ replied telling someone “Wrong studios go ask Xbox.” So yeah, if you want a new Spyro game, you better hit up Microsoft about it, not Insomniac.

That doesn’t stop from dreaming, though. SigmaLater said Spyro’s trilogy is one of their all-time favorites, and they would love to see more adventures in the future. And zeldadungeon234 called Insomniac their favorite video game company and is hoping for another Spyro game or a Ratchet and Clank game or even a Jak and Daxter game. RafaelCorradeS3 thought it was awesome to see the original devs pay tribute to the franchise on Spyro community day.

Some responses were pure, wholesome, nostalgic goodness. DevinRockX said, “Memorieees. Good old memories, glad my older cousins showed me this game.” MidTeags4515 said, “Never forget Spyro,” which, well, how could we? PlayManiaco_ from Spain sent a big embrace and respect, saying Insomniac made the best platformer in the world and that it made them happy during their childhood. They even said that during a Spyro stream, they got 1,000 new members and had a chat go nuts from all the support, which is insane.

Also, some odd ones were scattered-the likes of VelvexVancreed asking about an old game called Juju, or something, and WebbJarred begging for suits in Spider-Man 2. Then GameCharacterAI unleashed the most bewildering political rant that had absolutely nothing to do with Spyro until TrophiesWithK was forced to remind them: “bro this is a post about spyro.” Mood.

A couple of people brought up Sweet Baby Inc: Evilslijm with “Lets hope Insomniac dont make this game it wil be cover with sweet baby inch stuff xD,” while ThatGenericEric replied, “There will be loads of Sweet Baby Inc. Especially since Microsoft owns the franchise and they LOVE Sweet Baby. Enjoy your woke Spyro.” Which is… a take, I guess.

Most responses, however, were positive. Spyro Universe tweeted, “Insomniac keeping Spyro Community Day going! 💜” while jasinfla said simply, “Let’s fly 🔥.” TLPro9500 jumped in with a “Spyro for life,” and 13brevkasse declared Spyro cute with a hashtag. Enough to say, the stream meant a lot to many.

Insomniac does not own Spyro, but this franchise will always be loved; gamers are just all for it. The demand for more Spyro content is clearly still huge even if it’s up to Microsoft now to make it happen. Whether remasters, remakes, or a new game, people want to see that purple dragon brought back. That said, for now, let’s enjoy the big train trip down memory lane and appreciate that Insomniac really still feels for their creation. Hopefully, we will see a Spyro 4 one day that everybody’s crying out for. Until then, enjoy the classics. And that ain’t so bad.
