The official game account tweets something seemingly straight from nowhere-three words and a link. A very cryptic tweet did hit the timeline: “Imagine: You. These games. Soon.” It bore a link and some media but no explanation and no hints-only vibes. And Internet just lost its whole mind, trying to switch gears and decipher the meaning of the message.
It would be a sort of a master class of its own in minimalism. It’s devoid of any references to studio name or game titles. Instead, just a vibe all wrapped up in a shroud of ambivalence. The added spice seems to be in the particular media attachment-an image or video, but since access is excluded, anything beyond speculating goes to the fans. Is that an original IP?
Has it just been dropped out of nowhere? Did somebody rummage a lot for some cult classic? The possibilities could go on forever, and that’s what makes it so equally annoying and exciting.
This one is a theater of paint splattering of theories; mostly considered a teaser for a sequel longed for forever, others suggest the possibility of an indie collection getting a console release.
Such counter-replies just add salt to the wounds, further preventing the poster’s reply or engagement. Just drop it and vanish in silence? Marketing genius or accidental chaos? From either side, it is very hard to tell right now.
Most interesting is how this is supposedly all coming together for your special treat: those types of teases fittingly doorgaans take place in their gaming hall.. I remember when Rockstar would just drop cryptic images before reveals of any GTA.
Then Metroid Dread was shadow dropped by Nintendo last year. Those are the best kinds of announcements; the ones that are least heard of. This tweet feels like it’s based just about the same playbook-dangle enough to make people talk about it and let the hype machine do the rest.
Of course, it could be something truly minor. Possibly just some indie or mobile title that punches far beyond its wight. But these games-given their wording-implicate more than one title, thus opening things wide again. Is it a bundle? A crossover? Another one of those surprise drops from a publisher famous for left-field moves? Not the information that’s gonna drive someone nuts but kinda fun.
As for the meanwhile: watch and wait is all you can do. Bringing up the word “soon,” though, in gamer time, could mean anything from tomorrow to six months down the road. So the good news? Half the fun is in speculation. The not-so-good news is that we will all be hoy-hoying like lunatics just holding out for something large and tangible to drop.
So keep those pairs of eyes wide open and notifications on. Whatever this thing is, it is already buzzing-and that usually means something cool is up ahead. Or it could be a really well-played troll. Whatever’s new, the real fun part is the uncertainty.
Until then, theories are a-waiting. If you wake up tumbling down a 3AM rabbit hole of conspiracy threads, don’t blame us. It happens to the best of us.
