Operation Infinite pass wraps up the story of the game with a stunning 100-tier operation featuring new armor sets and weapon models. The new pass gives you three armor sets in the free tier, while the deluxe one opens up five more, six new weapon models, and a Charged Quill Shock Rifle variant. All of this comes amid the rumor mill of 343 Industries having had enough of the game and getting ready to pull the plug on it, which is now a pretty widespread belief among players.
the timing of this content release has drawn mixed reactions from the Halo community. On the one hand, players think that the designs of the armors are fantastic— for instance, the elegant and very cool looking tactical outfit and the elite-like armors managed to capture the players’ interest right from the start. But on the other hand, everybody knows that this could be Infinite’s last call for multiplayer support, which somewhat complicates the decision of whether to spend money on it or not.
Krispy Uchiha, one of the players, was very frank and stated: ‘I mean…yea it’s cool as a concept but knowing you guys are pulling the plug soon makes me not want to spend any more money on here.’ A lot of users seem to have the same opinion as the majority of replies shared the same doubt of whether it is the right thing to do to buy the operation pass which is probably the last one for the game.
But then again, there are heroic and loyal Spartans like DOXthaFOX, who said: ‘For sure grabbing the last content for this game. It deserves it and I look forward to completing the last operation pass for Infinite.’ That’s the spirit—supporting the game even if it might be the end of the line.
Right away the community was worried about the armor disclosures. _themolinator did not beat around the bush when he questioned, ‘Can someone please tell [me] what that last armor suppose to be?’ On the other hand, CAL2ski1 was just speculating whether one of the displayed items was a shield, which would be quite unusual for Halo but turned out to be just equipment placement in the promotional image.
The weapon models were also not overlooked and got a lot of attention. Ryno_666 thought he spotted an M6C sidearm and excitedly posted ‘M6C!’ while, on the other hand, Sen replied, ‘This should literally have just been what the sidekick is’—a classic debate among the Halo community regarding weapons discussion, being always so passionate about their favorites when it comes to pistols.
However, the most crucial point is that players are still asking for features that were never put into the game. Dragonviche made a somewhat request-like suggestion of: ‘Let us use a belt with thighs attached. It doesn’t clip’ thereby signifying that customization is still a hot topic. Masterbkb034 preemptively made a very strong demand: ‘Add more stages to firefight💚’ though the game may be reaching its end.
The major question is what is there still to give? Playable Elites. JamesHalliday94 put into words what many Halo enthusiasts must be feeling when he stated: ‘All this Elite armor without playable Elites makes me a sad Halo fan…’ and posted a crying emoji. The feature of Elites has certainly been recalled by players as one that was never taken to Infinite and still lingers in the community’s memory.
Perhaps Gunnery Sergeant Kabar had the most direct request to the devs: ‘@Halo UNLOCK THE KITS PLEASE! THIS IS THE LAST UPDATE SEND IT OUT WITH A BANG!’ The necessity to go out with maximum customization options seems to be a common trend—players want to look their best when saying goodbye if this is indeed the end.
There are still conflicting sentiments but at the same time, the truth is that there is also real excitement. Burner87125894 commented: ‘might get back into halo for this bad boy. 100 tiers? yessir’ which shows that even the most lapsed players can be drawn back to the game by major content releases. Furthermore, the total of 100 tiers is very generous even for a game that some players have already written off.
The association of the community with Halo Infinite has been… to say the least, difficult. The players have gone through the entire emotional roller coaster during the long and rocky launch, content droughts, and now apparently the final chapter. FakeRussianDude was very eloquent in expressing the bittersweet feeling: ‘Still can’t believe never got a Mk VI armor. Glad to have gotten the armor at least though. Anyhow, Thanks for all the things you’ve done for Infinite guys! Can’t wait to see the next multiplayer title.’
To add to that, the PlayStation and Xbox platforms continue to host passionate gaming communities.
