Those ODSTs and Helldivers got posted by the official Halo account, and you better believe the gamer community is melting down. The original post invited the community to submit paintings of the two factions of ODSTs and Helldivers side by side, captioned “HELLJUMPERS 🤝 HELLDIVERS.” What a beautiful spotlight on the community. And the comments? Oh boy, grandma, those comments are really something.
Let’s get started with the cries of “which means we NEED a full ODST PVE co-op game.” Yesterday, a player who goes by the name GuntromanCZ said: “Now give us ODST PVE COOP Game with Hub Space Menu (Space Ship, Major Base, FOB) with possible spaceship battles..” Straight up, I think that’s an insanely awesome idea! And, of course, he was not alone in expressing this wish. Hijinkssss expressed further, “I think the community’s appreciation for this collab tells you all you need to know: green light an ODST game already.” Players want to drop feet first into hell, albeit with company.
The thought kills me. Like, the Helldivers are all about managed democracy, and now Halo got thrown in. One said, “Both ready to spread managed democracy 🤝”; perfect. JhoZeCo just outright stated, “FOR DEMOCRACY.”which is honestly mood. Absolute mood.
Not so fast; all this isn’t getting there just yet. Some players are beginning to become emotional? Jacobis117: “This truly brings tears to my eye 🥲,” and well, me too. And SpartanCZ2009: “From happiness, right?” Most likely. To see two iconic drop troop universes collide is lovely.
The naysayers, however, will arrive. SpaceCadet took the heat with “Halo literally just steals other peoples work and is like ‘we did this.'”” which, for some, may be taken as an insult. And then the Halo account went on to congratulate Ollie Hoff, “thanks for making such great art! 🔥” So, props for that.
It’s the kind of randomness that makes Twitter, Twitter. One guy goes: “wort wort wort,” another classic Halo meme. And someone else was asking for a Gears of War collaboration?? Like, yeah, sure. Let’s unleash unbridled chaos with Master Chief and Marcus Fenix.
But the big takeaway is players using this crossover to beg for a new ODST-style game. They see how successful Helldivers 2 is at its co-op gameplay and are like, “HEY 343, PAY ATTENTION.” And they aren’t wrong. A Halo game that offers this kind of exciting, squad-based gameplay? Man, that would be something.
Someone also asked if PlayStation can have Halo. LOL. This probably isn’t going to be a thing anytime soon, but hey, dreams are free.
So, what is this spotlight? Basically, it’s a special edition spotlight featuring some artwork that puts the two teams face to face: ODSTs from Halo and the Helldivers from, you guessed it, Helldivers 2. A celebration of two franchises who love dropping soldiers into impossible situations and hoping for the best. And the community is totally behind it.
The responders to this have been overwhelmingly positive, sharing their own creations and hype about the crossover in general. It is, hence, one of those moments reminding you why gaming communities can be so awesome. Everyone coming together to celebrate something they love.
And this ain’t just some art drop. This seems like a test-run, an experiment. Any reaction to this kind of stuff has got to be watched by 343 and Microsoft. If to go off on what the replies are, then they should be taking notes, because the ODST game demand is out there, loud and proud.
With an update for Halo Infinite scheduled to arrive at some point in October, maybe this is hinting toward something down the line?? Probably not, but a gamer can dream. In any case, if you want to check the spotlight, the original tweet has the link. Really worth a look.
So yes, that’s the deal. The two are having a moment, and the players are absolutely down for it. Now, if you excuse me, I’m going to go watch that ODST drop animation for the hundredth time.
