Tons of new content has been added to the famous Witcher card game Gwent. Tweaks have been made to several cards alongside some faction-specific challenges. These updates are being put into place right before the World Masters event set to take place on March 14. There is a ton on the line with a prize pool of $250,000, which has caused this update to be met with mixed criticism.
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is a popular game taken from the world of the Witcher and set as its own stand-alone digital release. The game is simple enough running off of familiar functions and embedded with lore from the Witcher games. It hs enjoyable for fans of the Witcher and those who have never encountered any of the lore making for a very well rounded digital card-game.
The tweaks being made to the cards won’t be noticed by casual players as much. The issue is that it has caused a massive shift in the competitive meta, just before a massive competition.
Caretaker, in particular, was tweaked alongside Tesham Munta Sword, Brewess, and Mourntart. These changes were fairly impactful that many of these cards will likely fall out of the meta. It is unknown at this time what decks will be entered into the full competition.
Competitive play for Gwent is expected to be a massively successful feat. Fans from everywhere will be tuning into the official live stream to watch the event’s progress and cheer on the competitors. This massive prize pool is one of the biggest in Gwent history and should serve as a strong backing for this competitive opportunity.
The faction challenges will be implemented from now until the 13th. Players can try and complete challenges to help a faction of their choice excel. By selecting a faction to represent in the game, you will be assigned five tasks that they will have you finish. These challenges depend on the faction of choice.
These challenges give some extra reward keys prior to the competition. These keys can be hard to gain naturally through gameplay, so this is a great opportunity to supplement your collection. These keys can be used to help gain access to rare cards and make an even stronger deck for competitive play.
If you are interested in playing Gwent, you can find it on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch system. The mobile release is planned for the near future but will be unavailable for the time being.
