It’s a love thing all over PlayStation studios. Guerrilla Games gave friends at Sucker Punch Productions gigantic cartridge-sized congrats with art that has captured everyone’s attention.
Via the official Guerrilla account, “To our dearest friends at @SuckerPunchProd, congratulations on the launch of Ghost of Yōtei! Aloy and Atsu share the fire, and today we share celebrating your incredible achievement.” This act was followed by the glorious image by Guerrilla Lead Artist Ilya Golitsyn, depicting Aloy from Horizon sitting at a campfire with Atsu from Ghost of Yōtei. That is just pure cool, two of PlayStation’s biggest heroines just hanging out.
The internet had another agenda concerning this wonderful studio love story. It varied from quite a few really loving it, with the Sucker Punch gang responding with “Beautiful! Thank you so much, friends 💙 Happy to share a campfire with you any time.” Such good vibes on developers supporting each other instead of competing.
Then the players chimed in, “Jase1138: ‘It warms my heart seeing a developer congratulating another on a new games launch.’ I agree, dude. Truly.”
… Then… oh, dear. The usual suspects went and picked at that “woke” bag again… In no time, a user put up “Ghost of Wokei,” and everybody suddenly became an expert on character sexuality. People were debating whether Aloy or Atsu is a lesbian as though they had insider information from the developers themselves. One random Roberts even went, “So what? Aloy wanna scissor her, too?,” and.. what? Why? – why go there?
Others, meanwhile, were utterly confused by the whole “share the fire” business. GamesJoyRide weighs in: “What fire? Which fire?” Metaphorical, folks! The creative spark! The enthusiasm for putting together awesome games!
Then the cherry on the cake were the heated debates in the comments on character sexual orientations. One commented, “Just admit that you like men and move on. Stop bitchin on the internet.” while another responded to the “woke” complaint with “Get a life 😂 What a massive loser.” The internet stays the same!
But the good news, however, is that the real players are calling Ghost of Yōtei something splendid. PeepMeTom shared, “From those who actually played the game, it’s amazing!!” along with clips. And at the end of the day, it is all about the quality of the game.
Other are raised by players, such as Gemini Jack, who asks, “Can someone at Guerilla work on some new Forza Horizon art? Asking for a friend 👀” and RenanAnthonyCh1, who outright demands “Killzone where?” Sorry Killzone fans; maybe someday.
Even better, there are rumors about what could come out of such a tiny morsel of crossover art. Could they? Right? I mean, an actual Horizon x Ghost of Yōtei crossover? The way they are positioned in the art, just sharing that campfire moment, it feels like there may be a possibility there. They’re both open-world action games with prominent female leads, both are just incredibly beautiful aesthetically… It would not be all that crazy.
And then there’s the timeline- one user commented, “Congratulation PlayStation Studios, I can’t wait 2026!!” What is happening in 2026? Did we miss some announcement? The mystery continues.
At the end of the day though, this little morsel is just a really nice moment between two studios responsible for some of PlayStation’s most-loved franchises. Guerrilla showing up and recognizing Sucker Punch’s achievement with bespoke artwork? Classy. Exactly the kind of camaraderie this industry needs more of.
The artwork is lovely in itself – you can tell Ilya Golitsyn put real care into capturing both characters’ personalities while creating this peaceful campfire scene. Everything about it, lighting, details, just works. It makes you want to see more crossovers between these worlds.
So while some people are busy arguing about… whatever they’re arguing about… the rest of us can enjoy watching two great studios support each other and create beautiful art in the process. That’s the real win here. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go actually play Ghost of Yōtei instead of reading Xbox arguments about it.
