Attention gamers: mark your calendars and set your phone reminders; we have officially 33 days until the release of Ghost of Yotei. Yes, I just said it. In less than a month, we will get the Sucker Punch title we have all been waiting for and the hate has already started to roll in. I say that lightly; the hype train has been derailing into Ghost of Yotei and I love it.

Besides the hype train, the post comments on the tweets are something to talk about. There’s the usual excitement and anger. It begins with a person called Stanley Hudson—whom I must say I enjoy the most when people use their real names to ruin their reputation—going rude straight with: “It’ll sell half of the first one. Fk this gay shit.” which is…a take. Not a good one, but a take nonetheless. Meanwhile, other people are hyped about the number 33 itself. Ahmed cites it as his favorite number and connects it to Final Fantasy which, yeah, I guess makes sense.

But then the genuinely hyped people come to put a smile on the post. SoulHunter, finish your “Boy, can’t wait 😍💙” and honestly, same. Mani Naghshbandi then pops in and flexes with “Pre-ordered the Deluxe edition today! Can’t wait!”. Like, good for you man, save some of that energy for the rest of us. To top it off, there’s a dedicated countdown account @PlayStationCDS that’s reminding everyone they’re doing a daily countdown which is actually pretty cool if you like that thing.

What I find interesting is the mixed reactions. Some of them are already calling it “woke shit” without even seeing the gameplay which is…gaming Twitter is awful. Some other people, like RockStation, are just hoping it turns out great. And honestly? I feel the same. The expectation is really high for Yotei after how good Ghost of Tsushima was.

Oh yeah the countdown—33 days—a little over a month. Maybe some people plan to replay the first game? Or just stare at the calendar? I’m with the second group. I feel like this game is going to be special and if it’s half as good as Tsushima the teaser visuals we’ve seen so far really are incredible.

And can we talk about the dedication of some of the players? Like, there’s already a whole account just counting down to this game. That’s the kind of energy I want to see. Meanwhile some people are already writing it off based on zero information which is just…why? Why do that to yourself? Just let people be excited about samurai games dangit.

As far as I know, the pre-orders are coming in—including Mani, so I’m sure Sony’s watching the numbers, especially as we get closer to launch. With just over a month left, the marketing team is going to kick into high gear. The “a lot more—I mean, a lot more trailers” is something I’ve been told. As if that’s not enough, I hear there are also some new controversies coming, because I guess that’s the new game launch norm.

But, in 33 days, a new, big-budget samurai action game is being released, and, for many, that is obviously fantastic. Whether that game lives the hype of the first game remains to be seen, and until then, the countdown is on, and so is the hype. I suppose I’ll see you in 33 days.
