Ah, but the …

Travelers’ Tales event was a hit and is now going to be made permanent. This was a deserved announcement. To make things more exciting, a new challenge system is on the horizon: Valiant Chronicles: Local Legends. This will challenge players against unique enemies for exclusive avatar frames. You’ve heard it all right. Permanent content, at last.

Just what was Travelers’ Tales, then? Fundamentally, it was a story-centric mode where you met multiple Teyvat characters and unlocked pieces of short anecdotes and lore with them. Kinda sad once gone, so keeping it for forever is definitely a massive W for the community. And with Valiant Chronicles, you’re looking at combat challenges at last. These Local Legends are no laughing matter—these unique overworld bosses must be tracked and slain to claim that slick new profile border.

Since the official Genshin Impact tweet came out, players got hype; however, then it took some… fuzzy turns. For example, one user, @Kevin_Keyblade, had posited: “Really? Just avatar frames?” Well, fair. Could always be better rewards, but I guess it’s something to do, right? And that primogems thing has to be there; another player wondered, can we still get primos for interactions? Probably, dude. They usually don’t skip out on those primos in Genshin.

And then there’s the voice acting aspect: @EtherealDJ2 was hoping they’d get full voice acting instead of just text, which resonates… Silent dialogue in 2024 is a bit of a downer, especially in such a high-profile game. Meanwhile, @PanlilioCj observed that if everything’s gonna get voice acting, they’re gonna have to bring back a bunch of VAs—or probably recast them—which could get messy. Let’s hope the ENG dub doesn’t get any more delays.

Well, not everyone could really care. @Alexa74985 responded with “WE DON’T CARE,” which… um, okay, then. But, in all honesty, they got ratioed almost instantly by @SnowyF8, who returned with a “WE CARE,” so the majority is definitely here for it. Some players are even craving more: @ViiSiONs_arts7 suggested linking the system to character birthdays, so that when they send mail, you can go to them in-game. That’d be awesome, really.

Now, there’s fear about content bloat. @Suriyakeng tagged it a “waste of space and device performance,” and bloat, yes, Genshin’s already all up on that. Although @FreeMadKing clapped back: “We’re not talking about TCG or rhythm games here,” which is definitely true; those are way more niche. This is pretty much main-story adjacent.

And what about hangout events? Are those “definitely in the grave,” pondered @morpho_ohprom, which… oof. Hopefully not. But with Travelers’ Tales going permanent, this might fill that character-focused void. Skip Valiant Chronicles, though? @web3_rush asked straight up, and @ib_mulahid confirmed, yes, it’s optional endgame content, so don’t feel any pressure if you don’t wanna do combat challenges.
