Basically, Genshin Impact, the highly popular game, has premiered a new web event, ‘Mili Snow Resort, Party in Wonderland!’ It’s a short event where users can get hold of Primogems, Geodes of Replication, and so on. By clicking a link, they can join Miliastra Wonderland’s winter celebrations. It does sound pretty straightforward, and maybe even fun in a way. Nevertheless, the community response has not been very positive. Let’s say that it is very protractedly, very loudly, and very cynically ahh……. no salt, no comment, no sugarcoating.

Now let us look at the whole thing closely. The official Genshin Impact channel announced the event with a tweet full of excitement! ‘Dear Traveler, accept the invitation!’ In response, however, the comments immediately started to go crazy. It’s really a picture of players’ frustration. One user, @focalorsdeath, simply stated, ‘we don’t care about miliastra.’ Another one @Avalynopal stuck to the classic ‘WE DON’T GAF.’ The point is, to put it very bluntly, people feel this event, and perhaps even the whole Miliastra concept, is not in line with their interests.

However, it is not only the message of the crowd that is very strong; there are also the comments which are outright hostile. @ATsider65945 commanded ‘delete that garbage 🚽🚽🚽’. @Maaduno yelled ‘get this shit away from my client.’ @Solix33 requested ‘Delete that unnecessary thing.’ Quite a few strong sentiments regarding an online event that was supposed to be just a fun little bonus. This certainly makes one wonder what the real problem is behind the scenes.

One factor that might have contributed to the negative atmosphere is the very nature of the event. The ‘invite’ type of web events has always been a matter of discord among players. Player @wizkiller96 perfectly described the situation: ‘These invite event be annoying. Can we have events that don’t require inviting people?’ It feels like a marketing maneuver that has been disguised as gameplay, and the veterans just want to avoid it. They only care about logging in, doing a new task, and getting their rewards. No need for socializing.

Aside from the aforementioned marketing methods, there is also the argument of the bigger picture. A few replies imply that HoYoverse‘s Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail are in direct competition. @thotdestroyer29 posted ‘Let’s goo, HSR clocked,’ which looks great but is a bit odd. @focalorsdeath also mentioned ‘honkAI star rail was ended,’ which is rather vague but hints at some talk in the community. It seems that some Genshin players are comparing the support and events quality between the two games and finding Genshin’s input inadequate.

Not even the lure of free stuff could redeem it. @AHaruto97 responded with a meme and ‘nah F that, where’s the award?’ which indicates that he believes the effort is not worth the reward. Moreover, @Snowyux, while still thanking for a ‘free 10 pull,’ quickly turned to the wish of a certain character in 10 pulls. The event appears to be a wake-up call for players’ actual desires: more primo gems for the gacha and less fluff.

Some of the criticisms are really elaborate. @kungfootitan lamented about the gender-locking of costumes, which is a constant complaint. ‘I want to buy the girl some baggy pants and boots, but they are all for boys.’ Consequently, an event that is about a party with tons of outfits just makes the players’ one existing restriction more hurtful. It is never only about one event, is it? It is everything coming together.

As a result, the public was no longer being wooed by the game and with the posting of the one that was not very good. @pingwinstivi expressed: ‘When hoyo didn’t promote miliastra at TGA you know this is so dead 😭’. @thalaprabha21 sarcastically said there would be ‘the three people who play this would be very excited.’ Of course, it is an exaggeration, but it reflects a somewhat widespread perception among players that the particular update or mode is not viewed as exciting now, so it won’t be mainstream.

Still, not everything in this pessimistic scenario is dark. There were some users who commented with positivity. @uthykinging was like ‘Snow party rewards? Sign me up.❄️’ @EjiroAtenaga thought that it ‘might be really fun.’ And @lunaenator even said ‘this one is quite fun’ with a cute image. So, there are still a few players on PlayStation and Xbox who find joy in these events.
