HoYoVerse has launched a few teasers for Genshin Impact, and the internet has gone crazy. The official account released a brand new “Character Skill Showcase” for Flins, attached to that great tagline “Shadowy Lights, Stranger Wights.” That itself sounds like trouble. Of the good kind.
Flins? Well, it’s sort of a Travellers’ salute and promise to divulge more about Flins’ fighting style with an “allow us to take a look” and a link to all the details. The attachment to that tweet, G1rw8CLWwAASOfM, could definitely be categorized as artsy-flashy artwork of Flins just looking all mysterious and annoyed, or angry with power. That’s how it goes. The replies to that tweet are empty, which mostly means we have yet to get a full community reaction. Give it an hour or so. The wild speculation is going to be intense.
Now that is old-school Genshin update style. They show off the new character, the skill with the flashy name, and just let the hype train leave the station. “Shadowy Lights, Stranger Wights” suggests a concept here. Shadowy Lights? Some sort of dark and light elemental combo would be crazy. Stranger Wights? A wight is like a bloodied ghostly undead from folklore. Are we now looking at a ghost-commanding character? If so, that would surely be the first for Genshin. We have zombies and spirits by lore, but a playable character summoning spirits? That is a completely different matter.
One really wonders the kind of element Flins is. He is not straightforward like “Pyro” or “Hydro.” “Shadowy” makes one think Dendro, or maybe some new element for the future-a stylistic choice is more likely. He could be some kind of Electro that has a purple shadowy aesthetic. Or Cryo with spoopy ghosts. All are good options, and that really lends power to these teasers. The moment they come up, everyone is off speculating.
Character releases in Genshin Impact are always big. They bring new fighting styles, new stories, and new gameplay experiences worthy of spending one’s Primogems on. Genshin fighting involves lots of skill mixing-and-matching, and a character “Wights” could really throw off team comps. Maybe his abilities create spectral allies who attract enemy aggro, or maybe they explode in massive amounts of damage. It’s already a meta shift with every new five-star, anyway.
That makes timing all the more interesting. There is always some sort of pendulum rhythm to these reveals, generally running right into a version update. That’s right there–the starting pistol. Probably more tweets will come within the next couple of days, showing off his normal attacks and hand-story splash of his backstory. They enjoy keep feeding just a little bit of info to the community to keep them buzzing. And the players will eat it up. They will be dissecting each pixel of that promo art looking for anything that lands them a clue on his attire, his weapon, or just any.
Meanwhile, the hashtags worth noting are: #GenshinLunaI and #GenshinImpact. The former being weird, almost definitely an inside codename or something related to some area or event that he is tied with. Or, then again, could just be a typo, but likely not. The main thing is the #GenshinImpact, stamping it firmly as being within the world we all recognize.
Incidentally, the following details appear as a link in his tweet, putting any Hurteloab manner into some wobble-worthy full detail breakdown of talents, constellations, the whole nine yards. Those are the details that have the number crunching pros scrabbling to devise their pull strategy. Us casuals, however, just enjoy concocting ideas on what kind of havoc we can whip up in Teyvat from now. This character deals with “Stranger Wights,” making him perfect spooky crowd control-Hilichurls by the truckload.
The absence of replies almost feels eerie. It is the calm before the storm. In just a couple of hours, the quote tweets and replies will be flooded with “OMG MUST PULL,” “My primos are not safe,” and of course the inevitable debate: “Is he a 5-star?” That is the fun side, really. Building up together. Genshin is more than just a game-the social platform simply hosts characters as one of its biggest points of social interaction.
So, yeah, keep a keen eye on him, Travelers. Flins is coming, and with a name like Shadowy Lights, Stranger Wights, he’s going to hurt for sure. There’s a pun right there. That is yet another reason why this title has stayed in currency for so long-ongoing, deeply engaging content the players want to keep talking about for weeks. Now, all that is left for us is sitting down for the waiting game of his full kit. Speculation is half the fun.
HoYoLab continues to be a hub for fan theories and hype.
