HoYoVerse has set the ball rolling by unveiling Nefer’s character introduction- the latest 5-star character to join the ranks of Genshin Impact and the player community is going berserk. The announcement was made on Twitter with the very apt caption “Seems like more trouble is blowing in”- one that, honestly, quite accurately hints at the coming of an exceptional character from Sumeru.
So, who is this wonder of a new character? Nefer is represented as the smart and sly custodian of the Curatorium of Secrets, which is a pretty fascinating idea, isn’t it? Just think, what kind of secrets she might have? What’s in that curatorium? The short glimpse gives away very little of her lineage but we can ascertain she is a Dendro character and the Event Wish “Temptation of the Crimson Sands” is also giving a huge drop-rate boost for Nefer.
The community’s feedback has been… quite heavy if one may say so. Players were very fast in responding their exuberance and questions. One user @safiyahhsakura practically yelled in the most exaggerated way, “NEFER MY QUEEN OH PLEASE COME HOME FAST I HAVE NO 50/50 AND GUARANTEED AFTER THAT WITH CAPTURING RADIANCE OR WIN PLEASE C1 EASY GIRL” which, honestly, is the same vibe as when I am after a character that I very much want.
As a result, the speculations about her potential kit are sparking a lot of interest among the players. User @0xsagarr asked the question that everyone has in mind: “So she’s Dendro too? Wonder how her kit compares to Nahida’s” – and @Ashik067 replied almost immediately with “She is a DPS.” Therefore, we are talking about a possible main Dendro damage dealer which, in turn, may significantly affect the current game meta.
However, her visual design is also winning immense praise. Many people’s comments were about her eyes, and @vesperamyst simply posted “those eyes” accompanied by an emoji of a heart-eyed person. Meanwhile, @CarlHants has started to upload numerous high-quality wallpapers and art pieces featuring Nefer because the fan art community is indeed very fast, if not the fastest in the whole community.
However, some players have begun to draw comparisons between her and other characters. @silverhualian whimsically said that “neuvillette will like ðŸ˜ðŸ˜” while @AxiyoM pointed out her resemblance to “Hinata?” from Naruto and immediately replied “ok im all in.” This one also has a very strong association with the cat motifs – @LisnayaSabaka made the very funny pun “Of course she is CATalyst” that made me chuckle softly.
Still, Genshin Impact’s Twitter would not be itself without a dose of… absurd requests mixed with the hype. @downlikesix3rty shouted, “WE WANT COLUMBINA” and @nameless_s1mp was asking, “May 23 character when,” which suggests that everybody has their own most-wanted characters they are waiting for. Moreover, comparisons with other games by HoYoVerse have also been made – with @EtneupLeinad expressing concern about discrepancies in treatment among the games.
Nonetheless, the timing is very good – on October 22 the players will have enough time to collect primogems, yet @boczussyv4 has already said, “me and my 60 pulls are waiting.” In contrast, @KazuoYashiki_ is posing the question that everyone is eager to have answered – “When character teaser or trailer?” Because let’s face it animated trailers are always the best.
It is pretty interesting how Nefer is connected to the ongoing Sumeru narrative. As she is the custodian of the Curatorium of Secrets, she is probably entwined with the desert lore that has been unveiled with each game update. Her look is that of a mixture of ancient Egyptian-inspired and a classic Genshin character. And being a Dendro character she will most certainly have a very interesting interplay with the current Dendro characters and reactions.
The community has already declared her as another Sumeru queen with @GarudoHS saying “My third Sumeru Queen (after Dehya and Candace)” and @morganshibayt calling her “peak dendro wife i love cats and nefer.” The cat theme seems to be a major part of her appeal along with the Taurus sign that @_capiitano highlighted with “omg taurus girlie.”
As we countdown to October 22nd, be on the lookout for more leaks and information regarding her actual gameplay kit, talents, and team compositions. Will she be converted into a quick-swap sub-DPS? A main carry? Support? The community will be scrutinizing each and every piece of information released in the coming weeks.
At the moment, the players are simply ecstatic with the idea of yet another beautifully crafted female character being added to the roster, and the potential for new story content and world-building around her Curatorium of Secrets. The Sumeru region continues to offer the game the most visually appealing and lore-rich characters, and Nefer appears to be one such wonderful addition to any team. Just remember to have your primogems ready by October 22nd, as the temptation of the crimson sands is indeed very real.
