The G2-handgun reminiscent gun was fired on their so-called “2019 Worlds Legacy Jersey,” and emotions are fluxing in League of Legends. The org had tweeted, “The one that got away,” and a purchase URL was provided. Needless to mention: The people HAD A LOT TO SAY.
First things first: 2019 was indeed the golden era of G2. They stormed into LEC, a perfect meteoric rise to the top, grabbed MSI winnings, and then grasped at the World Finals, where they were massacred 0-3 by the likes of FunPlus Phoenix. Oof. But very much aside from the sting, that lineup of Caps, Jankos, Perkz, Wunder, and Mikyx was truly legendary. And so, years later, they were releasing merch related to that golden era.
The reaction ranged from respectable. There were some who were really hyped about it, with Rhao5 screaming in all capitals, “YES YES YES BOUGHT IT,” while others such as SushiCatKing had a bit of a different commentary, shouting out: “IT WAS 6 YEARS AGO, FUCKING MOVE ON!! NO WONDER LEC IS DYING.” Harsh, but hey, passion is passion.
And then the soul-stirring group comes on to the stage. “I still remember to this day that you actually managed to make me believe you could do it. Even my football team didn’t build that amount of hope as you did back then,” tweeted Cavvvallo. Jinxxfcb seriously admitted: “I still cry when I think about 2019 😡😭.” Same feelings, Jinx. Same feelings.
Of course, not a drop of any G2 Tweet could avoid the madness. G2 coach Dylan Falco threatened to “inhuman” acts at the next draft if they could not resurrect the glories of the past. Then, things got dirty with some relationship drama, as _tsuukiko explained that her boyfriend “turned into a child at Christmas” upon seeing the jersey. Relatable.
But the real question: why now? Others, like Erratu3, accused G2 of “milking the 2019 roster to the bottom.” Then there is driftking0903, who’s begging for a 2020 Worlds jersey instead, calling the golden dragon design a “banger.” Then RagerGr could hardly resist issuing the brutal reminder, “You mean the one you were the best team in the world all season long only to shit yourselves in a final against Doinb of all people…gonna buy 3.” Savage. But… fair.
Love it or hate it, one’s fingers cannot smooth down these memories via this jersey. Whether it’s nostalgia, salt, or just one awesome piece of merch, the name G2 is always a conversation starter.
