Fortnite is to get one more character in the form of a Marvel-themed character, and the gamers are already going wild. ShiinaBR’s leak claims that Spider-Man Zero and Mary Jane will be on the shop’s list; hence if the game is not enough with web-slingers, another variant of Spider-Man has come.
The response from the community, however, has been rather mixed and even a bit confusing for the developers. A few players, in fact, have expressed their delight. But if you take a look at the comments, you will notice that a huge number of players are actually asking for the real movie Spider-Men not the game variants. A user named Mal even went on to say “Sony needs to stop being weird and give us the movie Spider-Men 😠I want Spider-Punk and NWH Spider-Man so much” And truthfully? That is exactly my sentiment as well. We do have Tom Holland’s No Way Home suit, but where are Tobey and Andrew? Epic, the people want the multiverse, Epic!
There are also the players who are not just asking for the movie suits, but for all types of Spider-variants that are still not in the game. One more reply from Mal (they really are dedicated to this) referred to the issue saying, “So annoying we got a NWH Tom but not Tobey and Andrew. We need them and a point emote.” The need is very clear but Epic is still giving us… well, Spider-Man Zero.
What is Spider-Man Zero by the way? A user Olki commented “Zero’s armored suit from Zero War comics adds epic mobility” which could be interpreted that it is somewhat cool? But still, it is quite shocking that when players are crying out for Spider-Noir and Superior Spider-Man (Gustav Vasa deserves a huge salute for that request), one cannot help but think that Epic might not be very clear about the community’s desires.
Let’s take a look at how often these character skins reappear. Jacob56 said “for the 100th time” – and indeed, how often do we see the same Marvel skins rotation? LinakFolf47 clearly exposed the situation: “All of you are the same. ‘Non-unique item shop tonight! 🔥🔥🔥'” The excitement looks artificial when the same things are served over and over.
At the same time, Maddie is just asking for a new symbiote Spider-Man, which — makes sense. And Drift Tracker brought up Doc Ock which is indeed a very good point? Spider-Man has been a character in the game for a long time but no iconic villains? Where is the delight in the rogues gallery?
The negative response is not total, however Luckyboy labelled it “epic” so some people are definitely into it. Still, the overall atmosphere is that players want more diversity, more unique interpretations, and of course, the movie suits that have been MIA.
The way Fortnite‘s collaboration strategy functions is really interesting. They will sell these comic versions that hardcore Marvel fans may like while the larger player base merely desires to play as their favorite movie characters. The difference is very clear, and the comment section illustrates that so well.
In the end, it does not matter whether you are among those eagerly awaiting Spider-Man Zero or just waiting for something better, the item shop rotation continues. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll get those multiverse suits that everyone is asking for. Meanwhile, we have another armored Spider-Man variant that can either be accepted or ignored. The cycle continues, V-Bucks are spent, and the community still insists on getting what they actually want. One can only hope Epic is listening to all the demands in the comments.
