Now the Fortnite players woke up to a surprise for a Christmas-themed dog skin has officially landed in the Item Shop. The twist, however, is that people split between ebullient and calling it a scam. Why? Because this skin was actually given free during Winterfest 2022. Now that Epic sells it for 1,500 V-Bucks, the reactions are as varied as can be.
The news came from the lips of the Epic Games leaker known simply as HYPEX, who announced the font with flair. His tweet linked the Item Shop but also promoted his creator code (“might as well get a bit of support now,” he thought). But the comments are worth reading, one by one. Players who had this skin for free while others back last year stared with suspicious eyes on the matter. One “@Bullsnation66” put it rather plain: “I got that for free last year,” while sarcastic “@TTVGammerbotYT” replied: “Who’s paying for a free skin? Smh.”
Then comes the whole “Christmas in July” argument. Some seemed baffled by the whole affair: “Christmas in july Sana dog,” joked @Heattokun, while @atrocious_human was straight to the point: “Summer Christmas??? Tho.” Maybe Epic’s just gearing up for an early Christmas event? Or, according to @BlisruSpam, maybe their well is dry.
However, not everyone is annoyed with Santa Dogg’s arrival. Some of the players are happy that the skin might be available for purchase if they missed it during Winterfest. To be honest, Santa Dogg is quite legendary. Do you know anyone who wouldn’t want to roam with a battlefield-ready Saint Bernard in a Santa hat? @Soulbound_TV said it so right: “Finally, a skin that barks back 😤.”
If anything else, bigger implications are the ramifications of Epic backing out on their commitments with “exclusives.” In the meantime, players such as @Tortoise_Tube7 accuse them of “milking older skins because they are rare so they sell well,” while @JTM_REBIRTH speculates that Epic might be trying to get rid of exclusivity all together recently, with rumors about old Battle Pass skins making a return.
So, what’re your last words about this? If you missed out on Santa Dogg from its first run, there is another chance, although it’ll be a constant source of side glances from the OGs. But if you’re one of those OGs, well, just flaunt it that you got it for free one way or another. The Fortnite Item Shop drama is never dull to watch.
For some added tips, whoever picks up Santa Dogg get some more cred by entering HYPEX’s creator code. That guy is breaking news; he deserves some love.
Anyway, back on grinding V-Bucks. Or waiting for that next controversial shop rotation—as soon as the end of this one really.
