Fortnite has once again brought madness to its Reload mode by introducing a new wild modifier — the entire floor is literally lava. This might sound strange but think of the game you used to play in the backyard when you were a kid, even if you didn’t play it if you were a very young kid you certainly know about it. But in this case instead of hiding, players are shooting which still might lead them to die. It’s absolute chaos and the gamers are delighted.
Up to what, however, are we looking at? With the Reload Modifier Madness Epic Games intro said, “The Floor is Lava!” which means that in the Reload mode, effective only in battle royale that is fast-paced respawn-enabled (where players can respawn very quickly after being killed), the ground becomes a very deadly place. If you come into contact with it, you will be harmed. Consequently, the gamers are building, standing on the furniture, and doing almost anything to keep themselves off the ground and at the same time shoot other players. It is really insane and actually very smart.
The reaction of the Fortnite community has been …. let’s just say it’s not all positive. Some gamers think this new feature is the best ever. A user named Cec just wrote “so fun!” with that random space before the exclamation point that sometimes people do. Another player, cammybear_xo, said “Please keep this mode it’s fun,” expressing how much some people are enjoying the chaotic gameplay.
However, a user by the name of Spikes was quite severe and termed it as the “Worst seasons ever,” which may be very harsh yet, on the other hand, you know the way gamers can be sometimes. There was also another user J who complained about his loading in after a long break from the game just to get eliminated immediately, stating, “This is exactly why I Uninstalled to begin with. Why lie about the sbmm?” So, yes, some people are still at odds.
What is even more interesting is that the majority of the players are actually asking for the mode to be reintroduced to other areas of Fortnite. Proud Patriot specifically stated that “Bring Floor is Lava to OG battle royale please would be so much better” while Innate was practically screaming “WWW PLEASE BRING BACK LTMS TO NORMAL BR TOO” because when you are so much into something, it seems that the only way is to scream it online.
Among the comments, there were also some technical complaints regarding the game issues. Reality Cat 22 said, “They never bothered to change the original lava textures from the Ch1/2 Floor is Lava LTMs that no one could notice which is such a technical aspect that only the most hardcore Fortnite veterans would even recognize or care about.” And OKgamer01 commented that they “Reused the Midas one without fixing it to include the old Lava texture” which shows Epic might be indulging in some corner-cutting here.
As for the players, they are still asking for their usual stuff amidst the Floor is Lava discussions. Vamp54( ) is asking for rare skins to come back stating “I am begging you at this point. I’m tired of seeing old stuff return for like the hundredth time.” And of course, there’s the random Michael Jackson request from AJ, who has apparently been asking for 1259 days? That’s some commitment right there.
Epic’s Reload mode with modifiers is a pretty good way of keeping things fresh without having to carry out a major game overhaul. By introducing these crazy modifiers that alter the gameplay massively but only for a short while, the players get something new to experience without the need for large development resources. It’s actually quite smart if you think about it.
Salaar has even gone as far as to say that this should become a permanent feature. He literally shouted “PLEASE BRING BACK FLOOR IS LAVA PERMANENTLY” in uppercase letters because when you really want something, you have to make sure the developers hear you. Besides, HafizBhai asked if they could “put it in zero build reload as well,” suggesting that demand exists across various game modes.
The irony in this scenario is that this simple modifier has revealed so many differences in opinions and requests. Some players are complaining that ranked cups are not working while others are requesting new emotes to be added and one person even mentioned something about programmers targeting families? That was odd. Ralf was complaining about “The No Life Programmer Working @Fortnite is showing his presence again,” which sounds….personal?
Fortnite’s very nature has always been that of change and experimentation with new ideas all the time. Sometimes they hit, other times they miss but they are always testing new concepts anyway. This Floor is Lava modifier in Reload mode seems to be a hit as the majority of gamers have either reacted positively or have suggested that it should be extended to other modes.
Regarding PlayStation and Xbox, players continue to enjoy cross-platform gaming experiences.
