Fortnite’s latest event has made a big, super crazy, and mostly awesome change to the Fortnitemares Halloween event. A video showing the new content, along with the message “No debt goes unpaid. It’s time to collect, R.E.P.O is now in Fortnitemares,” was posted by the official Fortnite Twitter account. The new character R.E.P.O. has broken into this spooky season, but what is more curious are the players’ wishes in the replies.
But who or what is R.E.P.O anyway? The impression given is that the tweet is hinting at an addition of a new skin or character to Fortnitemares. The “no debt goes unpaid” part conveys a collector or bounty hunter look which is Halloween suited perfectly. Fortnitemares is the annual Halloween festival of Fortnite comprising limited-time modes, scary skins, and gameplay changes. Naturally, adding R.E.P.O. as a new character right in the middle of it is just Epic Games’ way of keeping it fresh.
Scrolling down the comments shows that PlayStation players have…other priorities. A LOT of other priorities. The comments section is filled with requests, demands, and begging for different features and items. It demonstrates how a single announcement about new content can instantly turn into a huge wishlist from the community.
Among the replies, the most prominent trend is the demand for the return of the old movement animations. Unbelievable! Many comments are just rephrased versions of “Bring back the old animations for movement and pickaxe pullout as an option in settings” with the hashtag #BringBackOMPP. Gamers with nicknames such as P1mple007, kaerostium, and AceOfD3ath are chanting the same mantra over and over again. They want the old movement animations to come back as an optional feature, and they are not silent. It is astonishing how one change in the visuals can cause such a passionate campaign by the fans.
Then there are the appeals for certain characters and items. DarkIceWitch11 is close to tears over the Maleficent bundle of the battle pass not being in the item shop anymore, as she exclaims, “I missed her really depressed really sad about it” with a whole stream of crying emojis. This very person also suggested Hallows Eve from Spider-Man as a battle pass bundle. Meanwhile, FrogForFortnite has been on “Day 452 of asking @Fortnite for Tsuyu Asui to be added to the game” – that’s more than a year of continuously asking for a single character! The devotion is… incredible!
Some comments are nothing but pure fun. FreddyRPlayer didn’t mince his words at all: “can i get it for free? I don’t want to buy this” – mood, to be honest. Dublicus wrote, “I bought I- HEY GET OUTTA THE WAY!!” along with a funny GIF that brilliantly captures the mayhem of trying to see the new Fortnite content while others are around. And eeveechuster posted, “The first butt shot and it’s REPO skins lol” – because, of course, someone had to point it out.
The crossover aspect has also been acknowledged by some players. joshsch19 said, “Never imagined I would see Lethal Company and R.E.P.O in the same game. And here we are now,” hinting that R.E.P.O might be somewhat similar to Lethal Company in terms of popularity among the gamers. That would be pretty cool as Fortnite could be the battle ground where other gaming trends collide.
On the contrary, some players are already looking ahead. Simeongallant11 asked, “Where is the live event?” and vantavexviper tweeted, “Event Teaser Time’s Ticking” – it is evident that a lot of people are looking forward to however huge the Fortnite event is next. With Fortnitemares being so lively, something grand must be just around the corner.
The mixed reactions are astounding. _Pump_And_Dump_ was really excited and said, “Cool to see the changes in Fortnitemares! Looks like it’s going to be an engaging event this time around.” But oakzywyd quickly responded with “yeah no1 buying ts” – so not all players are impressed with the new offers.
What is even more telling is that the community is being pulled in so many different directions now. Some are asking for the return of old animations, others are crying out for particular character skins, a few are inquiring about the upcoming events, and many just want the old emotes and items back in the shop. It’s as if the entire Fortnite player base has a thousand different wish lists and they ALL want to get Epic’s attention at the same time.
This whole situation serves more or less as a mirror showcasing how massive the Fortnite phenomenon has become and how varied the players’ demands are. It is an inevitable scenario, when there are a million players, that not everyone can be pleased, but Epic Games seems to go ahead trying to do it by constantly rolling out new content like this R.E.P.O character during Fortnitemares. Even if half the comments are about something completely different from what was actually announced.
Yet, the fact that all other players are going to continue playing every day, the fresh content like R.E.P.O keeps bringing players to one of Fortnite’s most popular seasonal events – Fortnitemares – even if at the same time they are also demanding twenty other things. The comment chaos is very much part of the Fortnite experience now – everybody has an opinion and they are not hesitant to tweet it right to the developers. Whether Epic Games will grant all requests regarding old skins and animations remains a question mark, but for now, R.E.P.O has come to collect during Fortnitemares and the players will likely continue to whine about everything else while logging in for their daily playtime on Xbox.
