What went down with this Fortnite wild update is all about Rumi’s Sword. A new melee weapon, everybody seems to talk about it. The hype for Rumi’s Sword is real.
Dataminers from HYPEX went ahead to spoil the whole thing, and from what we could certainly make out, this is not your regular pickaxe thing. Rumi’s Sword is supposed to have some fancy features to qualify it as a real weapon, rather than just a cosmetic glam. Players are calling it one of the cleanest melee additions into Fortnite ever; that says much, considering how many weapons have cast it in this game.
The plot thickens when some good players noticed that it looks suspiciously close to the Typhoon Blade from previous seasons. One comment outright said that it is a “just Typhoon Blade reskin,” and good for them. At least it’s an opinion worth considering. Then again, everything seeps into a reskin eventually in Fortnite, doesn’t it? Those animations do feel fresh, and scratching the surface, the attack patterns seem distinct enough for it to stand on their own.
Furthermore, it appears that the sword also has durability mechanics, meaning it might not last forever in usage. Someone posted a screenshot showing durability bars, so you will be monitoring your usage throughout the entire match. So that adds so many layers of strategy to melee battle than simply running around swinging wildly.
Sword swinging-wise, some are complaining that the attacks feel “just a little slow but good,” which is pretty much the description of practically any satisfying heavy weapon in any game. Something about those slow, heavy strikes just feels much better than the quick spam-forward varieties.
Now, while some are still enjoying the usual mix of hype and complaints, other players are suffering locker problems wherein they can’t apply their skins properly; a few others have the shop bag issue wherein the game tells them they don’t have enough V-bucks, whereas the money is clearly there with them. Classic Fortnite update chaos, nothing new up heret.
Back to the sword: the reactions are most positive, with users calling it “fucking clean” and “peak & amazing actually.” One even joked that it was close to Infinity Blade days: “Close enough, welcome back Infinity Blade.” Oh, the good old days when that thing was completely broken!
Laughter-inducing with the amount of usage tactics being suggested. One comment is perfectly fine with “cant wait to lose to this 15 times in a row.” I’ve been there so many times since powered-up weapons came in and everyone started spamming it for a whole week.
Now, with K-pop style blades in hand, the usual wave of “more swords?” inquiries will begin as someone asks for Guts’ sword from Berserk. I mean, if anime and K-pop blades are a thing, why not classic manga huge swords too?
Well-timed, considering we won’t really be seeing a new season proper anytime soon. We are still deep in our current season, and this is the huge moment for Epic to plate some mad new location spots and other goodies. With this sword coming into play, Ash William’s chainsaw is also now usable in conjunction with any skin, along with many more ways to fill the downtime… it really feels like Fortnite lives somewhat in-between major season launches.
Players think Epic are lazy with their reskinning and all, but I mean, then again, we got content updates almost all the time. Would anyone really call that lazy whilst other games go for months without any serious additions?
The sword looks pretty interesting based on the footage we have seen. They seem to have special moves aside from the obvious slash, but the real mechanics remain unclear. Probably we will find out when we get our hands on it.
And, of course, the usual community-grade Fortnite drama in the replies: people going back and forth over whether reskins are bad, others defending Epic’s update schedule-the-yada-yada. It just wouldn’t be a proper Fortnite update without people fighting each other in the comment sections.
So, what is clear is that melee weapons, somehow, may be appearing back in vogue in Fortnite. Between this, the chainsaw update, and other recent additions, I suppose close-quarters combat is finally able to get some loving after so long being shoved to the side by guns.
Whether Rumi’s Sword will be the next meta or just a novelty soon shall be clear. What is clear is that every single Fortnite player could probably chop this bad boy, so it is nice to have something flashy and functional for a change, very much unlike the usual cosmetic-only items.
That one with the sword feels like just another day with Fortnite updates everyone talks about. This cycle will continue, but it is, in fact, amazing in a way that this game has found so many places to stay in limelight, post all those years. Just with a sword, the whole community explodes with so many ways to enjoy the game. Well, that’s the charm of Fortnite – never-ending things to do or discover.
So the next time you drop into the island, make sure you spot this sword. Look out for whoever might be swinging this one on you; it is going to be a testing period for all for a few days. Good luck out there! Gil: May your sword swings be accurate, and the durability bars stay long.
