Fortnite has come up with a new emote that is inspired by the song “Cliche” of Machine Gun Kelly, which is the latest development. Players have different opinions on the matter. Some players were ecstatic about the emote, while others questioned the very reason behind this collaboration. Guille_GAG, a leaker, was the first to unveil the emote that is now the hot topic in the Fortnite community.
What actually is this new emote? Called Cliche emote, it features a song from MGK’s last album. The dance might look quite ordinary for Fortnite emotes, but it indeed has some arm movements and head rocking still nothing crazy. However, the choice of the artist has definitely caused a bombardment of attention. Machine Gun Kelly has often been a very polarizing personality in the music world, particularly when he got involved in a dispute with Eminem that eventually resulted in the end of his rap stamina and his shift towards pop-punk.
The opinions in the comments are absolutely UNBELIEVABLE! An individual named FrxzoneStorm was buzzing and he shouted, “YESSSSSS MGK SO PEAK” in all caps. However, a user by the name of juniper was also catching the keyboard smashing moment, typing “OH MY GOASDJKSDBFNSDHFBSDFHB OH MY GOD YES” which is very typical when one is really enthusiastic about a new Fortnite content. By the way, there are some people who are not into it at all.
For example, Dre! didn’t take long and said, “Not that bad honestly but it’s MGK so it’s ass.” This is ironical because the person concedes that the emote is not too bad, but he still cannot overcome the artist. The comment of dannyyyy66274 was even more blunt with “No one asked for @machinegunkelly” which really strikes hard. But, uh, what was I saying? Oh yes, the split reactions.
Gamers have also started linking the entire Eminem diss track rivalry. ChrisTheKing44 asked, “This the dude that buried Eminem? 😂💀” and Superiori_T replied, “Wasn’t that dude a rapper who got burned by Enimem so badly he quit rapping?”. Well, that’s pretty much what happened. The Killshot comeback from Eminem virtually sealed MGK’s fate as a rapper, and now he wants to keep this transition to pop-punk.
Still, Fortnite has never stopped working with different artists and the A-list of celebrities continues to grow. They have already collaborated with superstars like Marshmello, Ariana Grande, and The Weeknd. So, working with MGK does not seem that odd if you bear it in mind that musicians are the ones that Fortnite wants to partner with. The makers have a grand plan from the very beginning to turn the game into a huge cultural portal where anything that is possible happens. However, players keep strong opinions on this artist.
One interesting thing is how many players have seized the moment to request emotes they actually want. A big number of comments are demanding the “Abracadabra” emote which has been a long time rumor. SUCHATYR4NT complained: “they will add anything but abracadabra,” followed by a crying emoji, which is a very relatable mood, I must admit. And xoxoantonique was like “but we want abracadabra 🥲” with a sad face and everything.
Gamers have been specifying certain emotes – cequrcy is wishing for the “gnarly emote” while GildartSan opines that a “Pistolero Emote MGK would have been a better” addition than the one being offered. And, there is Leozzarios who pointed out the case very well when he remarked, “Icon Emotes are cool and all but I miss Fortnite original emotes bruhhh.” This seems to be true since sometimes the original moves can have a bigger influence than the licensed ones.
The whole matter is a clear indication that battle royale players have become rather picky regarding the artists they want to see in the game. Having witnessed such events as Orange Justice and Floss dances become cultural phenomena, people naturally become protective over the emote selection. What’s more, the presence of MGK as a controversial artist in the music scene doesn’t help the issue.
However, it could be argued that there are certainly MGK fans among the Fortnite players and they might be really pleased with this new emote. The musician has a strong fanbase that remains loyal even after the shift in genre and his pop-punk works are doing pretty good on the charts. So, in a certain way, Epic Games is right – they are simultaneously targeting diverse demographics.
The only thing that remains unclear at this point is when exactly this emote will be available in the item shop. The user OliDoCare asked, “Release” on PlayStation and Xbox.
