The item shop is now having two new emotes that Epic Games has just released for Fortnitemares. And honestly, the reactions of the Fortnite community are quite mixed. HYPEX, a reliable source, was the one who leaked the information, and not only did he inform the public but also gave a link to obtain the new digital items. To summarize, we are referring to the Halloween festivities of the game, and frightful material that has just come along with them!
So what was it that the firm showcased? To be precise, the Fortnitemares collection has been newly filled with the addition of two fabulous emotes. The first one portrays a person that is being resurrected from a coffin, which is without a doubt an allusion to the viral coffin meme that keeps reappearing from time to time. The second one is representing pumpkin slippers, and that has definitely attracted attention. The reality is that the feedback is not at all consistent.
This time, some players’ opinions have changed and they see the new emotes as a delightful addition and they do not mind to express their joy on the internet. One player with the username CosmicCait24 cheered very loudly and excitedly saying, “YES. FINALLY. BOO BOX.” while another user, Akaibeeyume, expressed his full agreement with an exaggerated claim “we banging with the pumpkin crocs.” Many players have particularly praised the pumpkin Crocs and even actively participating in the community discussion around the orange footwear. CJsnuggets even shared that “the pumpkin emote goes so well with spice,” meaning that some players are already mixing and matching their cosmetics thinking about it.
Nevertheless, there are also players who do not like the new stuff that much. A player, Linus Knight, described the timing as bad, as he said, “only took 18 days of October to get our first two emotes,” which in all honesty does sound a long time for someone waiting for seasonal content. There is clearly some irritation directed to Epic due to the delay of the Halloween items release. Seriously, it is already more than halfway through the month of October, people!
Price discussion is always the most interesting part of any debate. BrixerVision made a very insightful remark on the other items available in the shop when he said, “The price of an entire battle pass for a pair of sneakers that you barely see,” which, when considered from this angle, seems like a maniacal absurdity! That would mean you are paying 950 V-Bucks for shoes that are practically only visible during emotes or when gliding? That’s a pretty rich value discussion right there!
Nevertheless, what is even more interesting is what players are not getting and really want. There is this whole thread of comments where people are begging for certain skins and emotes that have not returned yet. Dublicus literally shouted “WHERE IS SHE?! STOP TEASING ME!!!” along with a crying emoji, while pb3d_x expressed similar disappointment about a pumpkin-themed skin that is still not available. It feels like Epic is fully aware of what the players want but is just holding back the goods?
New content always brings comparisons with the old ones. ItsADAMO_ called the new emotes “much better than the shitty ass zombie emote,” indicating that players do not find all Halloween content equally tempting. AirDrop_480 was inquisitive about why “the mummy” emote was not brought back suggesting that some classic Halloween content might be more missed than these new additions.
The Crocs brand collaboration with Fortnite certainly creates an interesting push-pull dynamic. NotNathan03 could not resist and burst out laughing saying “They’re pushing people to buy crocs so badly lmaooooo ðŸ˜ðŸ˜” which is at least partially true as pumpkin Crocs have been made popular a lot. It is the mixture of over-the-top brand collaboration and Halloween content that Fortnite is rocking, while players are clearly not oblivious to the commercial aspect.
However, on the contrary, there are some players who just feel ecstatic about the Scooby-Doo theme being integrated into Fortnite with bmsquamtum calling the skeleton costume “heat 🔥” and Zyro4848 making the typical “Ruh roe raggy” reference. To some players, the blend of horror themes and existing IP in Fortnite is still a winning combination.
All the comments show that Fortnite players have a really different set of expectations when it comes to Halloween content. They want the old ones back, they want creatively new ones, and they are more than ready to spot if something feels like it has missed the party. The two emotes in question have certainly got people talking, but at the same time, they are emphasizing the point of what has been left out of the Fortnitemares celebration this year.
Seasonal events’ item rotation casualties have usually resulted in an interesting game of cat and mouse between exhilaration about new content and frustration over missed favorites. With Halloween being very close, players are especially hoping to see what else Epic has in store. Is there going to be more emotes? Are the highly demanded skins finally coming back? Only time will tell, but for now, the coffin emote and pumpkin Crocs are giving players a new reason to show off their moves.
In general, Fortnite is still making great profits from its themed events, which are still arriving late to the content cycle and thus the discussion continues. The user’s emotional attachment to these virtual items is indeed a surprising fact. The only thing it shows is the value players attribute to expressing themselves in the game through the constant interchange of what is available versus what is desired. Whether one is spending on the latest emotes or waiting for something else, the Fortnitemares season is certain to be full of action and surprises. PlayStation and Xbox gamers alike are watching these developments closely.
