Fortnite players now have a new thing to try, as Epic Games has just launched the new Green Peely Kicks outfit, along with the Huggy Wuggy character who is now a part of the game’s fictional horror theme and is very popular among gamers. The leak came from ShiinaBR, who was the first to tweet about the partnership showing off the bright CSPE green costume with a Huggy Wuggy’s face devouring the design. It’s out there in the item shop for grabs and community feedback is… let’s just say it’s a diverse mix.
So what’s up with the kicks, really? They are an integral part of Fortnite‘s ongoing Peely saga which brings the banana skin into diverse shapes each season. Green Peely Kicks is the latest incarnation of Peely comprised of a full-body green banana suit with perfect sneakers, and the Huggy Wuggy cameo is a reference to the popular horror game Poppy Playtime. For those who don’t know, Huggy Wuggy is that giant blue furry monster who became famous for his scary yet at the same time cute looks, and now he is leaving his mark in Fortnite fashion.
Unlike the player’s reaction which varied at one end mixed and at the other completely positive, One player RACRaymond for instance just said: “Huggy goes hard NGL,” whereas GabWEB3_0 called them “fire.” But not every player is thrilled though, Some comments, such as that of VoltiaMayhem, were quite rude, telling the original poster: “Shut up liar” which seems a bit overboard for a cosmetic item announcement. And to this, there is the endless debate about bundles and prices, where Cyru5kd7 asks if you can buy the exact number of V-Bucks required for bundles and explanations of buying options via different platforms given by several others as answers.
Excuse me, what was I saying? Oh right, Huggy Wuggy’s coming out. Not that Fortnite has not previously taken stuff from other games, but this crossover is certainly one of the most unexpected ones. A lot of hope for future collaborations using other characters has been generated by this integration. OGBlackWidowFan put it “We want Obama,” which… okay, that’s like a totally different direction.
On the contrary, there is some confusion surrounding the content that accompanies the game. SeanLia4 asked about the Huggy Wuggy car decal and whether it was still available, to which other players replied that vehicle cosmetics are available in both Fortnite and Rocket League as part of the same purchase. This cross-game functionality is becoming a standard in Epic’s ecosystem, allowing players to unlock the same items across titles if they have linked to the same Epic Games account.
The timing of this release is also very appealing as it coincides with a period when there appears to be a smaller content drop between the main seasons or events which could signal the end of an era of whales. Such smaller cosmetic releases keep the game alive in between major updates and offer players new items to collect and show off during matches. Besides, Fortnite can be a game of players exhibiting cosmetics almost as much as getting Victory Royals.
Some comments took a darker turn, with mallballhall’s “#giveShiinacancer” being the most shocking, which is… yikes. That is really not a nice thing to say and it shows how toxic gamer communities can sometimes be over the most trivial matters. All it is, is a banana costume with a blue monster on it, come on people.
Still, if you stop for a sec and think about it the design is pretty clever. Green Peely Kicks retains the innocent, fun-loving, and silly appearance that Peely is famous for while the Huggy Wuggy cameo adds a touch of horror that draws in the other side of the player base. It is this very theme mixing and matching that Fortnite does so well, creating items that can attract different tastes at the same time.
In the wider view, this release is simply an extension of Epic’s strategy to frequently update the cosmetic items as a way to always keep the players engaged. A battle pass, crew packs, and these shop rotations; hence there is always some new item to spend those hard-earned V-Bucks on. What is more, the list of collaborations starts from Marvel superheroes to horror game monsters to… well, bananas; thus, it is accurate to say that the item shop has nothing but everything for everyone.
As for the question of whether or not these Green Peely Kicks are worth buying? The response entirely depends upon the individual gamers and their V-Bucks budgets. They are for sure different and the Huggy Wuggy cameo makes them very special as compared to the other Peely variants. It might be an instant purchase for collectors and fans of both characters. For others, at least they can check the item shop for the Kicks before they get rotated out.
The cosmetic game of Fortnite is still a big one with this recent update where it is clear that despite the years the developers are still able to surprise the players with nice combinations and unexpected crossovers. Whether you are a Peely fan, a Huggy Wuggy lover or just someone who likes colorful sneakers, the Green Peely Kicks definitely give you the opportunity to show your quirky side on the island.
This release is also available on PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
