If you are a fan of reckless driving and the hilarious absorbent yellow character with square pants, then perhaps you have already heard that Fortnite has come up with something insane. The tweet from the official Fortnite account notified about the newly opened Creative map that is placed in Bikini Bottom. The tweet referred to ‘absolute mayhem’ and encouraged users to get in their cars to receive their boating license by performing different missions while driving around and avoiding other players doing the same. The map code is 5218-8692-0070. The map designer is @pure_moxi turning it into a multiplayer vehicle battle. I must say, it is like total chaos but in a fun way.
As is the case every time, players’ reactions were oscillating from excitement to confusion to people just asking for a hundred other things. Let’s take one step at a time, for, the replies are an unfolding story.
Now let’s first talk about the good comments. Some players are more than happy about it. One player, ToasterSalty, simply stated: ‘I played this, it’s really fun.’ Another user, GAM3S.GG, said: ‘This looks like fun.’ Thus, it is evident that there is a small group of people who enjoy this type of silly, vehicular madness. It brings back the old Fortnite Creative vibe of anything could happen, and, by the way, a driving test in SpongeBob’s town is already on the menu.
Nonetheless, in contrast… The majority of replies are completely off-point with the map. They are chock-full of requests, complaints, and demands for Epic Games. It is as if the community saw a Fortnite tweet and then turned it into a suggestion box. The user datfatboah has been on ‘Day 16 of asking Epic for OG animations.’ fly3aglesfly_ wants them to ‘bring back og ranked.’ isaiifr is pleading for ‘OG chapter 4 movement.’ What a mood it is.
Gamers have been more precise while making their statements. TigerByter checked the map and said, ‘It’s aiight. Really buggy tho. Not gunna lie thought it was a fan made’. That is a very frank review—great concept but a little rough around the edges. Another user, ic3boi1, had an issue too, ‘I don’t like that my data doesn’t save on the map like I collected all the bricks & visited each town and when I logged off and got back on it reset my progress’. Yikes, that is a progress-erasing glitch which would irritate anyone.
And naturally, the SpongeBob factor has everybody talking PaulinaRez_ was stunned and asked, ‘SpongeBob and Fortnite together? Am I dreaming?’. Conversely, NotLoneJonesy was curious about the creator, ‘Where’s the SpongeBob template islands for all creators?’. Good point—if this indeed has the charm of a collaboration with a big brand what if, at the same time, the creators’ tools for everybody to make their own Bikini Bottom chaos are not there?
The speculation train is taking off at full speed as well. User MysticalMattttt who checked out the map exclaimed, ‘OH HES DEFINITELY COMING REAL SOON,’ implying very strongly that they think a full SpongeBob skin collaboration is about to happen. Chickenybacon’s reply to another user who was speculating about a collaboration was, ‘What if this IS the collab?’. Could the map be the entire event? Or is it simply a great teaser? Fortnite is keeping us guessing as always.
But hold on, what was I saying? Oh, yes, the chaos. The very tweet describes it as ‘absolute mayhem’ and apparently that is the heart of the matter. It’s not a calm driving simulator; it’s a multiplayer free-for-all where you are trying to get a license while the others are trying to knock you off the road. It is a perfect mixture of those funny, irritating, ‘how did that happen’ moments that Fortnite has so well mastered.
The whole thing also points to the fact of how much better Fortnite’s ecosystem has become. One tweet can present a silly driving map, and the replies may include asking for Harry Potter skins, complaining about Daft Punk car buying glitches, calling for RoboCop’s return, and two-year-old game mechanics discussions. Everything is happening at the same time—a buzzing beehive of activities is always there.
Suppose you ask if the ‘Drive Bikini Bottom’ map is worth it. If you’re after something totally out of the box, something super fun, then the answer is yes. Take that map code, invite friends, and get set for crazy, pineapple-under-the-sea-themed vehicular action. Just in case the progress bug is a hassle for you, you can perhaps wait for a fix. For others in the replies… well, the requests have been acknowledged. Probably PlayStation and Xbox players have their own thoughts on the matter.
