Epic Games just dropped uncomfortable news about lootpool changes in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3, and all the excitement is now fixed on the return of some classic weapons while celebrating the death knell for an obnoxious shotgun.
According to HYPEX, an almost complete name in Fortnite leaks, the MK-7 assault rifle, Holo Twister, and Frenzy Auto Shotgun have been unvaulted and put back into the game, while a community favorite was Twinfire Shotgun, and it was vaulted from the loot pool to the delight of fans.
Wait: a quick pause has to be taken here, for if in the whirlwind of changes in the ever-changing weapon meta in Fortnite, you have not been paying close attention, you might think I am talking gibberish. MK-7? MK-7 is honestly crazy, lining people up from dumb distances with just almost zero recoil. It has drifted out of the game for quite a while, and the community had been pleading for its return. One player, @BLovesFN, commented, “Mk 7 is my fav let’s go,” whereas, @Gilly2391 said, “it’s probably my favorite gun in the game ever.” So, yeah, people are happy!
There’s throwing the Frenzy Auto Shotgun back into the rotation. It is a close-range shredder-if one gets in an opponent’s face, it’s all over in seconds. And yes, the Holo Twister is back; some players are wondering why it was removed and brought back so soon. “@WokeResurection Why tf did they remove the holo if they’re just gonna bring it back 2 days later?” is not a bad question to ask.
Twinfire Removal could be the name given to this true story. It… is putting it mildly: controversial. The Twinfire was a dual-barrel shotgun firing two shots at once but having obnoxious handling quirks. Players out-and-out hated it. Just @RickyDicky91473 stated, “FUCK the twinfire,” which, honestly, sums up community sentiment. @CuisCopper said it even further. “Worst shotgun of all time, absolutely unusable in my opinion,” and we’d rather use the makeshift shotgun from Chapter 2 Season 6.
Reactions have been pouring in all day from this change, with @plexfv1 shouting “LETS FUCKING GO,” which I believe sums up the hype feelings. @fng_gamer’s take was “Finally an actually good lootpool,” while @isagifn1 kept in mind that “now we have the best 3 ar’s of all time ingame in a crashpad and pad season.” There’s definitely a vibe about Epic finally listening to what players want in the weapon meta.
So, not everybody’s happy with these, though. Some competitive players are pointing out that the holo twister isn’t in competitive, with @Covenfrmda6ix specifically stating that the holo twister is NOT in comp. And players have their doubts on whether is just for regular battle royale or competitive playlists.
Things get a little weird with some of the weapons in this current season too. @JeremiaszIV asked, “is falcon eye sniper still in the game? cant find one,” suggesting that no matter the changes, some weapons may still be harder to find than others.
Epic is doing quick mid-season changes, which is quite interesting. @dekrypt3d wonders, “is the entire team bipolar or what? this is the weirdest fucking season ever,” which is, honestly, a bit on point. The loot pool has been changing at a near-weekly rate, with weapons being gone and back at a largely unprecedented pace.
Since this season is focused on vehicle combat and chaos, weapon changes should be best suited to such an environment. With the MK-7 back from the vault, the players now have a reliable medium-to-long-range option with Frenzy Auto-mopping for short-range damages that Twinfire could never really fill up due to its glitchiness.
It’s not really just a weapon add-or-remove; theoretically, it’s how this changes the full feeling of walking through the game. The very presence of MK7 changes engagements at distances, and at close quarters, there will be Frenzy, toss out Twinfire, and at least some level of chaotic close-up gunfights will disappear.
Based on all the changes, many players are speculating on other updates within the season. Called this “Best ars in crashpad season” by @Zeynfnr1, while @sparkles_qt is of the opinion meaning “welcome back to BR everyone,” implying that this might bring back players frustrated by the previous weapon meta.
Then again, the question is: is this building to something bigger? Fortnite seasons typically have mid-season updates to shake up the meta, and this smells like one such meta-shaking mark.
A large segment of the community is in near uproar, and their reactions have been positive almost unanimously, as most players are celebrating the changes with joy. “Finally yall removed the twin fire thank u but this was so unexpected,” said @lyfeo60958602, showing that players really wanted these changes, despite not expecting them to happen so soon.
All this makes it very clear that the weapon meta in Fortnite is more fluid than ever, with Epic showing that it is willing to do some big changes on a dime once players start talking about their likes and dislikes of various weapons. Simple return for MK-7 and Frenzy Auto Shotgun and the removal of dreadful Twinfire is a shout-out to player feedback counting for something when it comes to charting the course for this game.
It’ll be interesting to see how all this pans out in general gameplay throughout the season. MK-7 has forever been loved for its reliability and precision; on the other hand, the Frenzy Auto satisfies the needs of an aggressive player looking for close-range power, while the bidding adieu to Twinfire is a slight relief for most players since it was a steady source of frustration.
Now, with all these weapon changes, if you haven’t logged in to Fortnite yet, this is a good time. Now, in these ever-changing weapons, the loot feels new again: classic favorites making it big, and annoying weapons walking away. This, in a nutshell, is what makes Fortnite so celebrated-all because of player feedback.
