Epic, as HYPEX’s tweet put it, retweeted the one by AussieAntics and simplemeleaky and said “Big Announcement.” No hints, no details, complete chaos, and explosion of speculations. And the community seems to be experiencing the moment of their lifetime. Well, that is the Epic way.
The replies are filled with the craziest theories, from people wanting Zero Build back into competitive play—for instance, one user literally screamed it into existence: “ZERO BUILD COMEBACK” to people wanting the NA East servers back; that would surely mean a lot for those competitive players who’ve had to battle ping issues. Then there’s the usual “Duos, please” because who doesn’t want some good duo tournaments?
After that, things really spin out of control. A few suggestions point toward some cool announcement for a Kai Cenat skin. But is that really big? Then there are problems with esports skins, African servers, and another honk about “Bikini Season!” same energy, probably unrelated to FNCS? Well, it’s just all over the place, so at least that adds to the hilarity of watching.
One very interesting suggestion claims that “Globals is just a renamed World Cup,” possibly suggesting a big change in how Fortnite runs its largest competitions. On the other hand, one more named Shimmy outright stated, “Fortnite is announcing something huge at Globals. Bookmark this,” and frankly, it feels like maybe they know something we don’t? Or perhaps it’s just bravado.
There are more pondering about what it isn’t. Another person said: “It’s about comp not for you leakers,” which is a good point, seeing it’s happening right in the middle of the FNCS stream, so it probably relates to competitive matters. A rebuttal, however, said: “It could be something other than FNCS, remember when they announced fracture in FNCS invitationals?” Indeed in the past, Epic has announced some bigger changes to the game in the middle of competitive events.
The range of guesses actually just contributes to the chaos. You have some hoping for new game modes; others want some server-side improvements, whereas some are just praying for a skin for their favorite content creator. Then there’s the wonderful mess of excitement and speculation. You can literally feel the vibe down in those replies—everyone’s excited but tries not to pile up too much on hoping. You’ve got to love the one who said, “LA LA LAA I’M SURE IT’S SOMETHING BORING DON’T YOU DARE GIVE ME HOPE!!!!” That’s the energy of the moment right there.
It’s really cool how this fits right into Epic’s method for keeping their community engaged. By dropping this pretty ambiguous bomb, they get the whole community talking and speculating about it, and so by streaming on, they all want to be the first to know what’s up. Great theater. And it worked- for sure, FNCS stream viewership would spike.
Like I said, that’s what the announcement is about. New tournament format, partnership with a massive name, or something bonkers and off-the-wall. History has taught us that Epic will still surprise us, so it’s anybody’s game. But what is for sure is that the spotlight will definitely be shined on the Fortnite community, either chanting in celebration or bickering in complaint, depending on what is revealed.
If you’re someone who likes competitive or just an interested bystander wanting to know what’s coming up from Epic, then keep your eyes glued to the FNCS stream tonight. Whatever this “big announcement” is going to spark, the discussion thereof will be underway—whenever that is a very good sign that something big will soon transpire. Don’t come telling me, though, if it turns out to be an epic letdown because you all know how this ends mostly. Half of the fun is in the speculations anyway!
