Epic Games, again, launched a new set of anime skins for Fortnite, and this time, it was Bleach. The official Fortnite account tweeted this very news and showed off the dual Zangetsu swords and the Hidden mask of Ichigo Kurosaki that had just been added to the Blitz mode. It seems as if the gamers can scream ‘Getsuga Jujisho!’ straight into their monitors without any censure from Epic, or they can simply don the mask and unleash a Cero blast. This is another one among the crazy crossovers, but it has kept the anime lovers in a frenzy and the gamers’ reaction is… just a vibe.

From the get-go, the buzz surrounding it was simply spectacular. ‘This is awesome!’ was the very immediate and brief reaction that MLGPresident tweeted and it really voiced out the general opinion of many. Simultaneously, the account that posts Fortnite Leaks just chimed in with WHO IS HYPE?😋🔥’ and you know asking such a question is totally in the context, right? Spartan was more than eager to go for it as he proclaimed, ‘I WILL be shouting GETSUGA JUJISHO while I totally kill someone.’ That’s the spirit! It’s moments like these that make Fortnite’s collaborations so awesome—they let the players live the power fantasies that they owned when watching the cartoons as very young kids. Or in the case of one player slymewizard48, who recounted a humorous story about his friend’s mom who dared to scream ‘BANKAI!’ in a shopping mall and just… did it. The commitment really is quite remarkable.

But, like everything else Fortnite related, the announcement was immediately followed by controversies and, to be honest, a lot of random player requests. The major point of contention? The items are only accessible in the Blitz mode. This is the newer, shorter version of Battle Royale. But not everyone is pleased about it. Player Zamot very straightforwardly stated: ‘Good job, Fortnite. Now, transfer the Bleach items to Battle Royale and Zero Building…’ Others, like Lunaireツ, made the same point by saying that making them Blitz-exclusive ‘forces players to play Blitz if they want to use them.’ A whole debate about splitting content across different modes is going on here. Fizzy suggested they could just add them to both which seems quite reasonable but then Lunaireツ countered that if Blitz does not get special collab events, it will soon be forgotten ‘like Rocket Racing or Ballistic.’ Ouch. The battle for a mode’s limelight is still very much alive.

And then there’s the classic Fortnite tradition: treating every single official tweet as a customer service hotline. This results in a beautiful chaos of unrelated bug reports and feature requests. Krabs pointed out a possible glitch tweeting ‘“Now live in Blitz” and it’s not live in Blitz’ and a bewildered emoji was used to accompany it. Others, for example, flyboy199090 simply posed the question ‘Is it live yet? I cant find any ?’ The confusion accompanying launch day has turned into a tradition now. While, k0ntroversial is on ‘Day 755 of asking for a rotating mini map option.’ Day 755! That’s some serious dedication. Lucs straight up begged Epic to roll back some of the new menu settings because ‘it’s so laggy and it freezes my game.’ Kazokiss reported a bug that resulted in the chests giving out zero grapplers. ONI seized the opportunity to ask why the downed players cannot tactical roll. The enumeration goes on and on. This serves as a reminder that, no matter how big and spectacular the new crossover is, there are still many game issues that the players are constantly wishing to be fixed.

Some of the replies were just downright hilarious. NimbusSparking laid eyes on the Hollow mask and commented ‘That mask is going to be nightmare fuel to kids😭’ which appears to be quite reasonable after all, it is very bright. nothaslu made a visual comparison and argued that the promo art ‘Looks like Pink Panther vs Ichiho’ and now I can’t get that image out of my head. The demand for more collaborations was also instant with many players pleading for a Jujutsu Kaisen co-op, like Goddesstrina13 and lipapawoowooooi, who were already requesting it as the next crossover. ‘JJK NEXT PLEAZS’ one wrote. It’s a never-ending cycle.

The Dual Zangetsu and Hollow mask are the personification of two legendary characters’ weapons that Ichigo possessed. For those who do not know, Getsuga Jujisho is his main cross-shaped energy slash attack and Cero is the beam attack that Hollows cast as their signature move. Bringing these characters into the game as a PlayStation and Xbox player might enjoy is another win for cross-platform play.
