Epic Games dropped a bombshell to send the community into full range of pandemonium. The Axe of Champions pickaxe will supposedly appear aboard the Item Shop on September 4 for general consumers. Now, as they say, not everyone has been happy about this proclamation.

A brief moment for those who might have missed out on the whole saga: The Axe of Champions used to be one of the most prominent flexes—exclusive only for the best of the best, top-tier winners of the FNCS tournaments. It was all about flashing your status, a digital trophy. Today? Everyone who has enough V-Bucks can almost get one, and boy, are they having fiery reactions.

One player-elegantly handled by @MFTFGames-screamed with, “NOOO….I LITERALLY grinded so HARD for this…Winning FNCS was POINTLESS..😭” Ouch. Another one, @somedudesho, came with “Yeah I spent over 60 bucks just for it to return? Epic should make free limited stuff limited.” Meanwhile, @IAMTHEDAVINCI hollered: “MOTHERFUCKERS WANT TO BANKRUPT ME ALREADY.” Mood.

Others do not share the sentiment of outrage, though: @savage_4f just replied with unstoppable enthusiasm, “Axe of champions 🫦🫦” (same). Meanwhile, @heathfnuk is already planning purchases and telling a friend, “buy it on your phone on the website” if on holiday. Priorities.

Here’s the standard Fortnite talk. @digital_dan20 decided to throw a diss: “No one plays Fortnite anymore. Besides virgins.” Nice take from someone still lurking Fortnite Twitter threads, but okay.

Question is, though, why now? Epic is well known to bring back “exclusive” items (Renegade Raider stare), but this one stings far harder for the comp players who earned it the legitimately most insane way. @StarFoxiwnl: “Ngl idk why they do this tbh, really makes the concept pointless if they are gonna sell it anyway.”

Old-schoolers must be coming out now for sure! @dd_denny007 flexed, “i had it og,” while @VisualMae very nearly cried: “MY RARE OG 💔💔💔.” Then @Its_Stug chimed in, complaining comedicly for an “OG style” variant, because nothing screams Fortnite louder than pixel gatekeeping.

So is the deal just about making some fast cash? Or is it really part of some grand scheme? No statement from Epic has surfaced as yet, but some leaks do say it would not be the last “exclusive” to make a reappearance. And honestly? I mean, at this point, nothing is safe.

If you have been trying to get your hands on the Axe of Champions for as long as you remember, then September 4 is a date that should be etched on your calendar. As for the OG winners who feel particularly stabbed at the back now, you might want to log off for a couple of days. Things with these replies be no good.
