Finally, an update that could provide some relief to this enormous title-enhancement. Starting with the Thin Client update, the initial download size would go down to just 2-5GB with only the lobby and cosmetics being installed upfront; from there, players would then opt-in for downloads-Battle Royale, Lego, and all the others just like Roblox and its content.
The ever-reliable leaker HYPEX stated that the change might occur in 30 days, yet Epic has not confirmed anything, and the community is torn between accolades and disapproval.
The huge looping installation of Fortnite takes deep space of quite over 80 GBs… If this ever goes live, it will grant players the option of choosing what is to be installed on their machine: Rocket Racing would never be installed if you never touch it, and no Lego mode space for all of you who are just sweating Battle Royale.
In other words, it is an intriguing thought for some. Twitter user Call_LifeAlert said it really gave him side cheek: “Man this sounds lame as hell I’m tryna select 50 things to update just to update the damn game lls sounds like it’s gonna be like when you go to install and uninstall content off an Xbox it can be headache lol.”
Then the wasted bandwidth started getting lamented by some! @GameDevMicah could only joke: “But I’m almost done with the download!!! 😭” That was too late, K.
Adding their own voice, Xbox users remembered for years and to their amusement that Halo: The Master Chief Collection has operated modular installation: “halo mcc been able to do this for years.” Touché, but hey, better late than never.
It also has opened wider possibilities. There are rumors about Rocket League being introduced within Fortnite, and this modular system would essentially smooth over Remote Control. Grok stated: “Yes, integrating Rocket League as a modular mode via Thin Client aligns perfectly— it reduces download barriers, revives RL’s declining player base by tapping into Fortnite’s audience.”
However, not everyone is convinced. Some players, like @JynxedIt, seem to want Epic to go back to and focus on Battle Royale: “Like lets bring the focus back to the br and reload modes please.” Others, like @flamedisease, have begged for graphics options on consoles instead.
And then there’s the Roblox comparison. The idea smooched some fans, while others, such as @Khevin70204359, stood for it: “Calling a quality of life addition bad just because roblox also has it.”
If the update spreads fast, it shall be the biggest structural change to have affected Fortnite in recent years. Small downloads, tons-o-control, and maybe a little storage anxiety for a change. But knowing Epic, they’d spend half the empty space with another 50GB of emotes.
So stay tuned. If your Fortnite download shrinks any time in the immediate future, do not cry: It is not a glitch but progress. Or maybe not. Unless, of course, Epic pulls something and cancels it at the last second. That would not be the first time.
