Epic Games fans of Star Wars and Fortnite were greeted with a bombshell announcement on Friday that saw them for huge revelations at the Star Wars Celebration set in Japan. The official Fortnite account took to Twitter to encourage fans to tune into the Star Wars YouTube stream on April 19 (evening ET) for the latest updates on what is coming next in the battle royale, and the rest is history, as it hints that a crossover is forthcoming.
Epic has kept under wraps what it is truly working on, but from the long history of collaboration between Fortnite and Star Wars, one can expect some returning skins and even a game mode.
Remember back when they released that Mandalorian skin? Or when they seriously let people wield lightsabers? Yeah, this could be as massive, if not more so than that.
Of course, it is pretty much perfect timing; it probably doesn’t get much bigger than Star Wars Celebration, and Epic surely wants to create waves.
Perhaps we’ll see Ahsoka and Cal Kestis, or one of those characters who might come out as a surprise from all the recent shows of Star Wars, or what if the plot twist is they just have a full season of all things Star Wars? The possibilities are endless and hype is already there.
Well, here’s the thing about Fortnite: The collaborations are unpredictable. It’s Marvel one day and Dragonball the next, and the next moment you’ve got your building skills as you try to escape Darth Vader, who is bearing down you with a mythic lightsaber. So pray for chaos with a capital C when the announcements are made.
All that we can do is wait and speculate. April 19 really isn’t that long away, but in the world of Fortnite, that’s practically an eternity. Will there be live events? New mythic weapons? Star Wars POIs? Only one way to find out! Mark those calendars, people. This is going to be epic.
Oh, and V-Bucks better be saved for this. Historically, Star Wars crossovers get the wallets emptied, so better save them.
