Epic has made quite a lot of WILD collaborations over the years, from collabs with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, and Ariana Grande; Epic has done them all! But THIS?? Epic Games just announced a Walking Dead crossover that wasn’t on anyone’s bingo card for 2024.

Not just with any old pickaxe, but L U C I L L E. Y’know, that thing with Negan’s barbed-wire bat that ahem left an impression inside the comics? Now it’s a pickaxe.

Just a few hours ago, purportedly, the Epic tweet drops like a bombshell in relation to that with hardly any notice, just a glimpse of Lucille in all her spiky glory captioned “Walking Dead (Comic) x Fortnite” with a link to the item shop. There was no trailer. There was no event announcement-cue ballistic missile. Just a weapon that traumatized comic readers now costing $15.

The replies are the deadliest thing? Dead silence. The Fortnite Twitter, normally a loud place where hot takes are passed against new skins? Crickets. Maybe they all need a mop to disconnect from how batshit rogue it is to swing an apocalypse-murder bat alongside Peely the banana?

Some important notes:

-Looks like the comic this time, not the show. Sad trombone noise for no likeness of Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

-Details on barbed wire: the bloody splatter. Cute little detail.

-Zero lore explanation on why Negan’s weapon exists in the same universe as Peter Griffin. Classic Fortnite.

But, honestly? Might just be their most random collab ever. And coming from me, who had added Warhammer 40k space marine last season. So bonk those noobs with a cultural icon of violence right now. You know… just don’t ask yourself too hard why Rick Grimes isn’t here.

Wait, does that mean Glenn skin next?

(Update: Still no replies under the tweet. Did the entire Fortnite fandom blackout on it??)
